So over the past two weeks on the island, Rebecca hadn't really done very much. Did some work for her classes, rearranged the furniture in her room and taken over part of Matt's closet... normal fun stuff. But she'd come to the conclusion that it was time to start networking with people. Forming alliances, as it were

Darcy was enjoying boarding school life. She only had to venture out of her room when she wanted to. This happened to be one of those times. And there was food.

"Awesome, Italian." She made a detour from the stairs and headed for the food.

"Hey there!" Rebecca said, doing an excellent job of passive-aggressively masking her slight bristling at Darcy's lack of greeting. "Rebecca Logan. Nice to meet you."

Such an excellent job, that Darcy didn't even notice. "Darcy Lewis, same here. Oh. Is this your food?" The realization came a few minutes late.

"Yep! You're welcome to help yourself," Rebecca assured her, gesturing to the spread. Just as long as she got face time so people would associate her with the delicious food. "It's from handwavy fancy restaurant. Really good stuff."

Darcy was mostly beginning to associate common rooms with free food. It was close?

"Oh, awesome!" She loaded up a plate with pasta and garlic bread. "So like, are you an old student welcoming the newbies or something?"

"Nope, I'm new too!" Rebecca chirped. "Just thought it'd be nice to give people a chance to settle in, have some food... it's been a long week, you know?"

"I had to do like, three physics classes on a stupid computer!" Darcy agreed glumly. "And new school and all." She added lamely.

"How sad for you!" Rebecca said, managing to hit a note of sympathy even though she wasn't actually sympathetic at all. Because she was good. "Are you a science person, then?"

Let Darcy's look of horror - with some bonus tomato sauce - speak for itself. "No. Like, not even close."

Rebecca looked baffled. "So... why are you taking them?"

"So I can graduate high school and go into politics." Darcy said glumly. "Seriously, how is calculating the speed of things hitting each other ever help me with polling?" There was a bit of whining there.

"...it won't."

Duh, Darcy.

Darcy gave Rebecca a look that questioned her intelligence. "Exactly!That's what I said! And it's not my fault they're counting the internship as college credit. I mean, I nearly got killed."

Rebecca blinked. "Uh-huh."

She was just going to start listing designers in her head and fake her way through this conversation even more than she already was.

Darcy rolled her eyes and focused on eating a plate of pasta as obnoxiously as she could.

"Yo," said Claudia. There were so many people she hadn't met yet. She'd had no idea she'd been such a hermit. "Howzit?"
