Fifth Floor Common Room, Sunday evening

Dec 11, 2011 16:48

It had been a long day, at the end of a long weekend, at the end of a long week, and so on. So Bruce was pleased enough to take it easy for a night and head to the common room. But that was just a cover for something he really wanted to test ( Read more... )

Wesley had gotten more enjoyment than he'd like to admit out of finally being able to return to the library and deposit all the books he'd taken out over the past few weeks. Then from there, he came straight to the common room to collapse on a couch. Because he could do that now.

Then he noticed what was wrong with this picture.

"Is the television... actually cooperating?" Wes asked, surprised. HE KNEW YOUR HISTORY, BRUCE.

"For now I assume it's playing nice in the name of celebration," Bruce said. "But I'm hoping it stays this way from here on out."

"With any luck, it might," Wes agreed. "Perhaps if enough people remembered it as being cooperative?"

Bruce hadn't made a point to do that at all. Why would he do that?

"I should be so lucky," Bruce joked. "But aside from maybe that and a couple changes in the town, it seems like things were put back together correctly."

Cara's afternoon had started out great, there had been large amounts of fighting and (re)killing the undead. Then had come the swamps, and having to remember, and the emotional gut-punch had left her feeling stretched and scraped raw, with an intense need for company.

Not that that last one was readily apparent from the way she barely grunted something a greeting at Bruce before falling back onto the couch.

"Hello to you, too, Cara," Bruce said. "I see you're enjoying tonight's return to relative normalcy."

Cara managed a shrug.

"Beats the alternative." Like that swamp, which she still smelt vaguely of.

"Is everything okay?" Bruce asked. This didn't seem to be Cara's normal displeasure with the world.

"So did the universe bring the diet coke with it when it started existing again?" Quinn wondered, as she came up to poke through the fridge. "Hey, Bruce."

Casual. Like she wasn't glowing with happiness.

"Hello, Quinn. Glad you could make it out tonight," Bruce said. Okay, he was more glad that she existed at all. Whatever. "I think there was some toward the back. If not, I'm sorry I didn't think of it at the time."

"Yeah, I'm glad to be here." Quinn gave him a dubious look. "Wait, you're going to have to explain that last sentence."

She knew she was back; she just wasn't clear on the mechanics yet.

"Those of us who made it to the end had to use our memories to recreate everything, and it went off from there," Bruce said. "So if something's missing from the fridge, that's on us."

"Okay," Petra announced from the doorway, "apparently the principal was serious when she said the only safe place was with the books?" This place was so confusing. But on the bright side, she existed again.

"It was a strange definition of 'safe,' but it worked for just long enough," Bruce said. "Hello, Petra."

"Are the walls lead or something?" Petra asked, still confused. "Special Collections, it's just books, right?" It made no sense to her.

"It's books and magic," Bruce said. "Or at least it's magic influenced by books. I'm not enough of an expert to know how to explain it."

And then there was a Jack sprinting through the hallway like a maniac screaming "SHE'S ALIVE!" at the top of his lungs before running down the stairs.

Bruce wondered who Jack was yelling about as he ran down the stairs. Presumably, somebody who was very important to him.
