"Okay," Petra announced from the doorway, "apparently the principal was serious when she said the only safe place was with the books?" This place was so confusing. But on the bright side, she existed again.

"It was a strange definition of 'safe,' but it worked for just long enough," Bruce said. "Hello, Petra."

"Are the walls lead or something?" Petra asked, still confused. "Special Collections, it's just books, right?" It made no sense to her.

"It's books and magic," Bruce said. "Or at least it's magic influenced by books. I'm not enough of an expert to know how to explain it."

Petra facepalmed and muttered, "See, I never even guessed there would be magic in the library." She removed her hand and continued, "Though I don't know why not. This place."

"The magic didn't surprise me. The fact that the magic meant we were camping out among giant toadstools and could be sent into a different world on a whim did, though," Bruce said. "I'd suggest staying out of Special Collections if you can help it."

"I don't know, it sounds kind of like an adventure," Petra said, "but I'll definitely proceed with caution."

"I'm pretty sure there's a different adventure for every book that's in there. Not all of them are terribly interesting, though," Bruce said.

"But why would they keep boring books in Special Collections? Oh, probably rare or something, huh?" Petra wondered. "Hey, are you watching this on purpose?" She had to check.

"I'm pretty sure the book about installing skylights and windows was just shelved in the wrong place," Bruce said. "And yes, the TV is behaving tonight. I figured people could use something light and fluffy." That still involved crime. Obsessed? Yes he was.

"Huh," Petra said, because what else could you say to that? "Yeah, probably. So is it any good?" she asked as she flopped down on a couch. She was watching even if it wasn't.

"Not at all," Bruce said. Bruce didn't really know who Mario Lopez was, but he was able to recognize that his appearance as the male lead didn't mean quality. "But it passes the time while people filter in."

"Even better!" Petra declared, kicking her feet up onto the coffee table. "That means we don't have to actually think about it. Think there's any popcorn?" The getting up to get it didn't sound like the most fun ever, but she could probably be bothered to make the effort.

"I'm pretty sure I remembered some being in there," Bruce said, noticing that she just put her feet up and taking that as a hint. "Would you like some?"

"What? Oh," Petra realized. "No, that wasn't a hint, that was me thinking of it a second too late." She stood back up. "I'll get it. Want some hot chocolate, if it's back too?"

"Since you offered, sure," Bruce said. "Wait, you're not one of those random people here who have absolutely no idea what they're doing in the kitchen, are you?"

He'd eaten too many disastrous cookies over the years to be nice. He needed to check and make a stand against people like that. Even if it was just hot chocolate and popcorn.
