Fifth Floor Common Room, Wednesday Afternoon

May 11, 2011 19:24

After his one class of the day, Jeremy thought he deserved a lazy afternoon. (Yes, despite the fact that he had barely done anything in said class. Shush, just be glad he chose to somehow rationalize his laziness today.) He got himself a bunch of food (mostly snacks) and soda and camped out on one of the common room couches, grabbing the remote and ( Read more... )

Squall wandered in and blinked in disbelief at the television.

"...Stimulating."

"I did not pick this!" Jeremy exclaimed immediately, a touch defensive. He was still crouching in front of the television, trying to push at buttons in the hope something would change. "Freaking TV's broken or something."

"Maybe it doesn't like you?" Squall suggested with a shrug.

"...That's not a joke, by the way. It's a realistic suggestion."

"How is that a realistic suggestion?" Don't get him wrong, Jeremy knew the island was maximum levels of messed up, but that just sounded way too... personal for him. "I practically adore the TV, why would it not like me?"

After dealing with freaking SARAH all morning, Jack decided it was best to put a few floors between himself and his room.

Seeing what was on tv he made a face. "You guys mind if I change the channel?" He asked politely. "Unless you're really into..."

Jack frowned at the teletubbies. "Damn. Those things are creepy.

"Dude, I've been trying to change the channel," Jeremy complained, sitting near the Tv now, remote in hand. "It won't let me. Or, it lets me but there's nothing else on."

"It won't let you?" Jack asked in disbelief. "It's a tv!"

"It's a TV in Fandom," Jeremy grumbled. Oh, the TV was getting such scornful looks. "Apparently they can do that."

After spending half her morning in the sea, Kate figured she was allowed an afternoon off training. It made her happy that her logic of the day allowed her to take off and find something or someone else to keep her busy.

Of course, holding to her own common room for that search was boring, besides... this was new and yes, she was looking a little entertained by his struggle as she wandered over. "Interesting choice."

"Not mine." This time, thankfully, Jeremy managed to keep from sounding flaily. It may have been because Kate was a girl and he didn't want to embarrass himself even further than he already had. He glared at the TV. "Freaking thing is refusing to work properly."

"There has to be a better excuse than that." Kate was unlikely to be any help at all in solving this dilemma. Television in her world rarely worked long enough for anything much more than the odd emergency bulletin, so getting stuck on channels... hardly an issue.

"Well, you're new," Jeremy muttered, reaching to pointlessly press a few buttons again. "Welcome to Fandom. I swear it's not an excuse."

There was always a need for food, and so Ariel was eventually drifting into the common room to find some, but she was, momentarily, distracted by the television on the way in.

"What's this?" she asked, with a frown on her face that suggested she wasn't sure if she really wanted to know.

"Kids' show," Jeremy informed her with a rather despondent sigh. His life was so hard. "Which we're going to be stuck with forever because it's all that's on, and the set won't even turn off."

Ariel considered the show a moment longer before looking over at Jeremy. "Were you the one who turned it on?" she asked.

"Yeah." He nodded, but then felt another spike of defensiveness that caused him to add, rather quickly, "But it's not what I was wanting to watch."

Topher wandered into the common room, enormous bag of chips in hand, and promptly flopped down on the couch.

Then he noticed what was on TV.

"This show a favorite of yours?" he asked, raising his eyebrows.

First, Ariel noticed the chips, trying to get a good look at what kind they were and if they were any good. And then she took a look at the girl and tilted her head curiously. "Are you new?"

Something seemed just mildly familiar about him to her, but she realized it could be new kid overload at work.

Topher nodded, shoveling a handful of barbecue chips into his mouth. "Yeah," he said, his mouth full of food. "Fifth day or somethin'."

Newbie overload it was, then; Ariel brushed it off. "Well, welcome, then!" she said, smiling over, and maybe eying the chips a little more again. "I'm Ariel; do you live on this floor?"
