Squall wandered in and blinked in disbelief at the television.

"...Stimulating."

"I did not pick this!" Jeremy exclaimed immediately, a touch defensive. He was still crouching in front of the television, trying to push at buttons in the hope something would change. "Freaking TV's broken or something."

"Maybe it doesn't like you?" Squall suggested with a shrug.

"...That's not a joke, by the way. It's a realistic suggestion."

"How is that a realistic suggestion?" Don't get him wrong, Jeremy knew the island was maximum levels of messed up, but that just sounded way too... personal for him. "I practically adore the TV, why would it not like me?"

Squall shrugged. "Does anything on this island need a reason?"

"Well, no, but..." Yeah, Jeremy really had no good argument to use there, so he just threw his hands up and complained some more. "It can't hate me! What am I supposed to watch if it hates me?"

"Well I could always just zone out," Jeremy mused, because really, he could zone out for hours at a time, it was a talent. "But I was planning to be active this afternoon."

... Watching TV was being active, in his world.

"Squall!" Of course Ariel had to squeal at him with extra force now. "Hi! How are you?"

Squall gave her a bit of a smile and a shrug. "Pretty well, I guess? How are you?"

"I'm pretty good, too," Ariel answered, still maintaining her smirk; she had that tone of voice of knowing something that she was going to dance around actually saying. "How's the semester for you so far? Good classes? Met many of the new kids?"

Squall shrugged. "Classes are okay. I haven't met many of the new kids. I'm not sure I'd even remember who's new and who isn't."

There was... something she wasn't saying. Squall had the feeling he was missing something.

"And...what about, oh, I don't know," Ariel said, appearing to think a little, "new kids who are new here but maybe not so...new in other aspects?"

"You've met Seifer," Squall growled.

"Oh," said Ariel, trying to hold back a laugh at the growl, but it still came out with a little bit of a snort. "Don't sound so annoyed. He doesn't seem that bad."

"Because he wants to have sex with you," Squall pointed out.
