Fifth Floor Common Room; Friday Evening [ 01/07 ].

So Ariel's plans didn't turn out quite as she would have liked. Raven was appearing to have a bad day, but she still really wanted to have pizza, inspired by earlier with her idea, and, though it didn't have the privacy of her room like she was sort of thinking would be nice, she still could (try to, anyway) invite Chuck to come have some with her ( Read more... )

Caroline was so having a night after that message from Nathan earlier and not being able to get anything but Ric's machine. The smell of pizza called to her and she barely managed to wave at the people in the room before grabbing a slice and inhaling the soothing scent of greasy cheese. Almost as good as blood.

Her lips pursed automatically, not wanting to be her brutally honest self. "Today was complicated. Was your first week terrible?"

That was the first question Bruce had seen Caroline try to dodge. He was slightly surprised by that. "Not really. Too many people seemed to know me from somewhere else, but you get used to that kind of thing fast enough."

"Like, know you how?" Caroline asked, glad for something to take the focus and be truly interesting at the same time. Faking it was never fun.

"I haven't asked," Bruce admitted. "But my family is pretty well known in Gotham City. If anyone has a Gotham in their world, there's a decent chance they've heard of the Waynes."

"I'll go ahead and guess they're well known for something good. If your family were serial killers or something awful, bets are you wouldn't mention them so easily." No, she didn't know about tact. "Do people like, walk up to you and tell you 'Oh hi, I so know you,' or is it less lame than I imagine?"

"They were philanthropists," Bruce said. "And people usually stare for a little bit and try to figure out what to say, or they don't really recognize me until they hear the name. Then they get weird."

"So you're used to staring and potentially creepy stalker tendencies. Not that I think it's difficult to find things to say to you, you're the guy with the meeting people hobby, after all, but it's not like you have a third eye on the back of your head." And that would be Caroline stretching her neck a bit to see if he did have any strange extra body parts hidden behind him.

Bruce noticed the stretching and turned a little to show that there wasn't a third eye, no. "If anyone is stalking me-" they weren't, unless squirrels counted as 'anyone' and that was just normal here, "they've at least done a good job with doing it quietly. That's all I ask, really."

"Much better than feeling eyes watching you go through the line in the cafeteria, I guess. So what's so interesting about you, Bruce, other than your parents being super rich?"

"I have no idea," Bruce said. "I haven't asked about that either."

Okay, maybe he had small ideas, but it was entirely speculation that he tried not to think about much.

"You not asking people questions? This I find hard to believe," Caroline told him. "Unless you felt you'd determined the answers and then there's really no point in asking, but that would be judgmental, right?"

"I'm not going to ask them questions about me. I'm not some kind of egotist," Bruce lied. He so was. He really, really was.

"Who are they anyhow?" Caroline wondered. If he wasn't going to ask, she could totally find out since it had to be good gossip.

"You really think I'm going to give you the chance to get info on me that even I don't have?" Bruce asked.

"It's not my fault you're not curious," Caroline told him, grinning just a little on the devious side.
