The whole incident with the hair had almost caused Cal to forget exactly what day this was. Monday. That meant more than just having to work at the library. That meant Rumor Girl, on the TV, and Cal was there.

Pretending to ignore it while cooking food. No burgers this time, but something just as good and Greek and handy for TV watching: Read more... )

Worf arrived shortly before the show started. He merely nodded at Cal. There were no need for words regarding what they were about to watch.

They were men. (You know what I mean) Watching Rumor Gal. Words were not necessary for this event.

"Your hair is short."

Except for that bit.

"I got it cut," Cal said, helpfully, before offering out a skewer of meat and vegetables. "Souvlaki?"

Because offering one man a stick of meat was just yet another dimension to just how masculine this ritual truly was.

"Thank you," Worf said politely taking the stick of meat. "What is it?"

"Lamb," Cal explained. "On a stick. With veggies."

Jaina had spent enough time handwavily training today that she was starving again, so it was the smell of food that brought her up here. "Please tell me you're sharing," she said by way of greeting.

"Nope!" Cal said brightly. "All mine. None for anyone else."

"I'm capable of asking nicely, but it hurts me to do it," she warned.

"No pain," Cal commented, waving around a stick of meat, "no gain."

"Okay, that smells awesome," Rose said, coming into the common room. "You weren't kidding about making good food."

Cal laughed a little. "Never underestimate the power of the Mediterranean Diet," he said. "It's souvlaki. Lamb kabobs with veggies and a family secret seasoning that I'd have to kill you if I told you. Want some?"

"God, yes," she said quickly. "You're totally my favorite, Cal.". She wandered closer to the kitchen to observe all the goings on. "Why does your family have a secret seasoning recipe?"

Girl grew up in a boarding school. Family food is confusing.

Ah, it was the small things in life, like food making cute girls instantly adore you, that Cal gave far too much weight to. He grinned a little. "Because we're Greek?" he offered. "We take food way too seriously. If someone else knows how to make your recipe, then you've got nothing to offer and might as well kill yourself."
