At 2 am exactly, a loud buzzing sound rang through the dorms. An not just any buzzing. A loud, obnoxious "BZZZT!" followed by a two-second pause, followed by another "BZZZT!", followed by another two-second pause, followed by a... You get the idea. And the really bad part was the way it tended to feel like it was inside your head when it "BZZZT"ed

But, there was nothing to dampen spirits like being woken at 2am with a loud, shrilling and irritatingly persistent alarm, only to be made to stand there outside in the cold in just pajamas and a cardigan for god knows how long.

"Could you just hold her for a moment while I wrap the blanket better?" she suggested hopefully. "I wasn't exactly planning on a trip outside." Just, possibly, a trip across the hall to surprise a boyfriend.

Okay, so he'd forgotten his shirt. Not a big deal. It wasn't that cold out.
