Try Not to Die [Thursday, May 15, 2014]

May 15, 2014 13:31

"Hello everyone," Anakin said, sipping from his cup of coffee, "today we're going to a slightly more challenging world than Coruscant was."

Aren't you excited, class? Be excited!

"This one is called Kashyyyk--with three y's--and it is the homeworld of a species called Wookiees--with two o's and two e's. They look like this," he said, flipping up ( Read more... )

Perhaps inquire about the school's liability insurance.

"... Wouldn't you die if something ripped your arms off and then beat you with them?" Karina asked, horrified and incredulous. "What if we die?"

"Don't," Anakin advised helpfully. "It's in the name of the course, even: Try Not to Die. In this scenario, don't pick a fight with a two-meter tall furry alien. Easy enough to avoid."

"I'm not planning to pick a fight with them," she protested. "But sometimes it happens! Especially cross-cultures."

Road Block! sith_happened May 15 2014, 12:38:36 UTC
Well, pretending there are roads here...

Wookiees get through the wroshyr trees using their powerful claws, which humans do not have (well, most don't. If you do, congratulations, feel free to use them). In order to accommodate non-Wookiees, they have installed several ziplines throughout the city you're visiting.

Zipline a kilometer across a jungle full of alien species dying to eat you and land on the small landing platform on the other side without throwing up or falling off.

The zipline was terrible.

Okay, so Karina was exaggerating. Compared to last week she much preferred the zipline.

And if anything tried to eat her, she was going to say screw not using her powers and stick them in a block of ice. Luckily, that didn't happen, and she didn't get sick either.

Okay... this was actually kind of fun. Well not the whole jungle full of alien species trying to eat him but Barry dug the zipline.

"FUCK YEAH!"

Okay, he really dug the zipline.

Well, that was fun. In retrospect, after she managed not to die.

Detour: Fix It or Mix It sith_happened May 15 2014, 12:47:49 UTC
Wookiees are amazing mechanical engineers. In Fix It, you get to help fix the hyperdrive on a freighter ship: there are more parts to it than you'd think, and unless you speak Shyriiwook, the other mechanic's instructions aren't going to help you very much. Get finished before you've frustrated the Wookiee too much, then find Anakin!

In Mix It, you will meet up with a Wookiee chef and learn how to make the Life Day special "bantha surprise," with the help of a holographic four-armed chef named Gormaanda.

DO NOT EAT THIS STEW. Wookiees use enough spice to screw up a human stomach for a week.

When the chef is satisfied with your dish, she will tell you where to find Anakin.

It took her all of .02 seconds to pick the Fix It option. Karina was not mechanic, though she could maintain her bike just fine, thanks, but between two choices, both of which had a terrifying alien that could rip her arms off and kill her, she was going to take the one that also didn't involve strange alien food with god knew what in it.

Needless to say, her own nerves and her absolute inability to understand the alien's directions, meant that she lost every bit of time she'd gained from having no issues with the zipline. She took forever.

On the bright side, she did not get her arms ripped off. Though she was pretty sure she'd come close to it.

Karina was opting not to dwell on that. Much.

Barry took the fix it option again but ended up taking his time going through the hyperdrive engine and getting it set up.

And almost got into an argument with the mechanic when he asked to take the spare parts with him.

After finding out eating the stew was not an option, Emma decided to go for the fix it option. However, it seemed that all her efforts were only making it worse just like LJ!. Eventually, though, she managed to getting it working to the mechanics satisfaction...or he just gave up, Emma couldn't really tell.

Anakin (and Jessica) were waiting for you on a giant stump of a tree that was a half-kilometer wide. These trees didn't mess around.

Yeah, the other people around were kinda what she'd expected.

"I'm not dead," she announced. "I'll take it."

Barry was in an chipper mood when he finally arrived.

"That was fucking awesome!" Barry said as he continued to scribble out notes about the hyperdrive technology he got to play with. "Can I go back and fix that ship again?"
