Unconventional Tactics, Tuesday, Period 2

Nov 23, 2010 09:46

"Yo, Rookies!" Reno gave his students a lazy grin as he settled back against his desk. This week, we're gonna touch on somethin' that you all probably ain't strangers to, havin' all been on the island as long as you have. We're talkin' alternate realities, timelines, universes, that kinda shit."

Reno's colorful vocabulary knew no bounds. Truly. )

Try to get past the trauma, doodle in the margins, pass notes, whatever it is you're prone to do when Reno is talking about at least three horribly traumatic occasions all in one fell swoop.

Raven was paying close attention for this class, despite being tired. Alternate worlds were of great interest to her because of how she could travel between them, and alternate timelines as well since she knew there was at least one future out there where she became something she didn't want to be.

She'd be making faces at his topic but in all honesty, he'd mentioned timelines and her mind had gone immediately to her tangle of them.

Which meant there was sighing. Much sighing.

Kennedy was listening very, very intently this week, yep. She'd never woken up in any of the other worlds he'd mentioned, although her experience in France hadn't been great either, so there wasn't a huge trauma factor going on.

Well, not directly.

Still, all very useful stuff to know, so she was leaning forward with her arms folded on her desk, looking quiet, serious, and... not studious, because Kennedy, but some more combative equivalent.

What did you do when you were thrown into another reality or timeline without warning?

Or, alternatively, if you were to find yourself suddenly thrust into a situation so completely alien as the ones that have been mentioned, what do you have readily at your disposal that you can use to get you through?

"I am able to travel between dimensions," Raven offered up quietly. "The first thing I could do would be to see if I come return to Fandom, and if nothing prevented me, I could bring people back home if there were not a task we had to undertake in this other reality."

That was rarely the case, however.

She lifted one shoulder.

"I'm a spy," Ino said lightly. "I'd go spyin' 'bout."

Actually, what she'd probably do was drop her shields and go looking with her mind first, but it amounted to the same thing.

"Can't say that's ever happened to me," Kennedy began. "I'd probably at least have some kind of weapon on me, and other than that?"

She shrugged, casually, but she wasn't as brash and cocky about it as she might've been a year and a half ago, and she actually looked thoughtful. "I'd pretty much have to figure out who else was around and on my side, and-- if it's not people I know-- what they can do. So I'd know what kind of resources we have."

Who probably have some idea as to how to hold their own if they're thrown out of their element, right?

Jake thought he knew how to hold his own, but then he wasn't entirely objective on the matter.

Who makes a living dealing with what goes down when he gets thrown out of his element.

And kind of enjoys the hell out of that sort of thing, too.
