Rather, we're going to talk about the First World War, or as it was known in the early 20th century, the Great War, which began the cycle of conflicts that ravaged the century. It started rather ( Read more... )

Chloe was taking a lot of notes as Mitchell talked.

Jaina couldn't be bothered with notes. She'd rather just pay attention. And it was sad that she could listen and completely understand how something like this could start without even having to try.

...That was a lot of stuff.

Still, Kate took notes and tried to keep up. If she only had three classes per week, she might as well make some effort to actually learn something.

British Newspapers. What kind of slant do you see? What kind of information do they pick up on? What seemed to be the British approach to the First World War when they went to pick up arms? Discuss!

Or... discuss what you expect the British slant was to be, if you're not as much of a massive nerd as the mun is.

Ino read the handout. Then... read it again, brow furrowing.

Okay.

She looked around for a partner.

Well, Dinah didn't have really strong feelings on this subject. And it would have to be interesting to get Ino's take on it.

"Hey, Ino. Want to talk over the headlines?"

"Hey," she said, wrinkling her nose cheerfully. "I think we might get in trouble if we didn't talk 'bout the headlines, don't you agree?"

Dinah was here! With coffee and tea and donuts and muffins. She might have gotten carried away at J,GoB.

"Ooh, coffee."

What else was there to say, really? Especially if you pointed at said hot beverage at the same time.

"I was gonna bring my own in a thermos but I couldn't get myself out of bed early enough."

Dinah grinned. "And that is why am here! To be the coffee pixie. Or coffee finder. Whichever. Here, do you want some cream and sugar too? Everyone should be caffienated for this class."

Who is there, and drinking a glass of water. And looking more than averagely thoughtful. Honestly, he was looking forward more to next week's class than this one.

"Mitchell-san?" Too bad, it totally wasn't just Mitchell. "Do you have a moment?"

"Sure," Mitchell said, looking up from his glass. "Ino, right?"

"Most of the time," she said lightly. "Yeah, that's me. I just got a question from talking to Dinah and was wondering what your take on it was?" She rested one hand idly on her hips. "Like, 'bout that whole freedom of speech thing--what's the... point of it, come a war? Dinah said that the civilians have a say, but I don't really get it. I mean, things aren't going to be settled in a newspaper 'bout people saying 'I think this is bad' and 'no, you, this is bad', right?"
