first two charities
Can we make it official that our first two charities will be the Lawrence Community Shelter and SOS Children's Villages?
- Fans have the option of a show-related charity and an international charity
- Neither are religious organizations that I can tell
- They deal with helping people, families, and children which were top topics in the earlier poll
Yay/Nay? I would like to announce it officially on the web site and get that letter I mention down here headed off to them.
Money Questions
calicokat had a valid point of having donations go straight to the charities rather than collecting them to send as one big amount.
Personally, I like the collecting and one big amount because I think it makes the fandom more visible. What do you think though? aequitas_always volunteered to help be a gatekeeper on the money stuff, and I would like to have at least three people to do that so you guys know we are keeping it honest.
The Lawrence shelter has a Paypal form, so any money that goes into the Fandom Rocks paypal account can easily be given to them, without double-dipping on the fees. Can anyone review Paypal's information to confirm that?
The SOS donation online is credit cards, but they have a number to call for other options.
Moving money from a personal Paypal account to a bank account is free, so we could always find out if they accept checks, move the money, photograph the checks as proof, and send it that way.
There are a lot of options here, and like I said, at least three people should be involved with the money stuff so everyone is comfy with it. We can post weekly/monthyl/quarterly notices to the web site with screencaps of the account, etc.
