ready, set, go!

Okay ... I haven't heard much from the (smallish) crowd here, but the web site is pretty much all set to go.

I am about to write a post describing the two charities in more detail and link to the donation page. I would like to set a goal or deadline for the first two charities. I am thinking September 1st or sometime in early September so we can make the donation before Season 3 starts. What do you think?

For visitors who want to get something more tangible for their donation, should we set up a Cafepress store or something similar with some designed items for sale? The Veronica Mars fandom has been pretty successful with this sort of thing. We just need some designs.

HERE IS MY DRAFT. POSTED! Please review and critique. I plan on posting it within the next two hours.

The fans of Supernatural are proud to kick-off the first charity campaign in support of the Lawrence Community Shelter and SOS Children's Villages.
"Saving people, hunting things, the family business."

Fans took the much-loved quote from Supernatural's first season to heart when choosing the charities for the first campaign. Fans expressed a desire for a charity based in Lawrence, Kansas. Importance was also placed on the mission of the charities. A focus on families, children, and people in need - a major theme in Supernatural - resonated with fans. As a result, two deserving charities with strong missions to improve the lives of people across the globe rose to the top of the list.
Lawrence Community Shelter

The Lawrence Community Shelter works every day in support of their mission: "to provide safe shelter and comprehensive support services and programs that provide a path to a positive future for people experiencing homelessness and people who are at risk of homelessness."
SOS Children's Villages

Under the umbrella of SOS-Kinderdorf International, SOS Children's Villages operates in 132 countries and territories worldwide achieving their mission: "We build families for children in need, we help them shape their own futures, and we share in the development of their communities. "
Be a Part of the Campaign

If you would like to support these charities, please consider becoming a part of the campaign and donate today. You can contribute and help spread the word by purchasing an item from our store. Fandom Rocks will be collecting donations in the name of Supernatural fans until September 1, 2007. All donations will then be distributed equally to the Lawrence shelter and SOS Children's Villages.

CafePress Store
I opened a basic CafePress store for another way to bring in donations. All items will cost $1 over the base price to keep prices low, and that extra dollar goes into the donations.

I placed a very simple graphic on shirts for now. If you have design ideas, post them to the community or to the forum on the web site.

What besides apparel do you think we should offer?
