Xander: Hey there, Fandom. Taking a break from boogieing the night away to bring you the news, this is Xander and W-- uh. Willow?
*the sound of silence*
Xander: Will? Huh, no Willow. Oh, wait, lemme check something.
*more silence, then a couple of aggrieved squeaks*
Xander: Nope, turns out that Willow-sized pile of squirrels in the corner was just... a Willow-sized pile of squirrels. Am I asking? I'm not asking. Clearly they drank the punch. Guess they weren't the only ones, 'cause it looks like it's just you and me tonight, Fandom.
*sound of a slamming door*
Willow: Hi! Hi! I'm here! Don't panic! I'm here with hereness and no longer there with thereness and by 'there' I of course mean 'the dance' which is where I have been this whole time. Well tonight. During dancetime. Prior to that I found other ways to occupy myself but my point is that I was at the dance, until now, when I am doing radio. Hi!
Xander: ...Hi. You were at the dance? Like just now? I didn't see you when I was leaving.
Willow: Um! Ha ha! Really? Because I saw you. From where I was. At the dance. But behind you which is why you got here ahead of me. Because... I was dancing. With Peter. Who was at the dance with me.
Xander: As opposed to with somebody else.
Willow: I'm just saying that I was at the dance and Peter was at the dance and I can't vouch for anyone else because I wasn't taking attendance. So news now?
Xander: Well, Bridge was there. Unless I was dancing inappropriately close to somebody else, in which case I'm so sorry, Other Person In A Green mask. Uh, and also Bridge. 'K, yeah, news now.
Willow:
Of which we have tons! Some of which isn't even about the dance.
School, which did admittedly sponsor the dance that has been aforementioned.
At today's
Faculty Meeting Principal Washburn was filled with happy and glee, and there was pie and chocolate. Which raises a bit of a chicken and egg question. Or maybe a wondering of if the notes were written wrong because one assumes there would be filling with pie and chocolate, which causes happy and glee. Either way, all four things were there. As were
Juli, Bond, Nathan, Ghanima, Aly, Mike, John, Mohinder, Biff, and Kerrigan, all of whom also partook of glee, chocolate, happiness, and pie. Except for Kerrigan who hogged all the grumpiness for herself, due to emotions regarding chaperoning tonight's dance. Which is a shame as I felt she was an excellent chaperone, while she was chaperoning. Which I saw. Principal Washburn also asks for the chaperones to watch out for
chinchillas in punchbowls. I can say with 100% accuracy that I didn't see any.
Xander: When you were dancing. At the dance. With Peter who was also at the dance.
Willow: Precisely. The
club that really needs a more appropriate name met in the Library.
Romeo contributed what I am told is a horrible poem, and I hope it wasn't of the limerick variety in spite of what the club's name is.
Karal offered lessons in how to be all schmoopy in Karsite. I hope folks understood him. Maybe if he offered the lessons in English first it would've made it easier for folks to know what kind of lesson he was offering. And I see here that
Hoshi did in fact fail to leap on the lessons, though she did so in Russian. Because in naughty-named club we like confusing people.
Xander: You do know it's called 'Speaking In' not 'Kissing With,' right?
Willow: I was totally not doing that when I was supposed to be at the dance with - uh - ANYWAY,
Liir offers up Arjiki and Quadling lessons and I would like to give the squirrels a big round of applause for spelling those correctly. At least I assume they're spelled correctly and that Liir wasn't actually offering lessons in Spanish and Dutch.
Adah writes naughty things in French, which one of the squirrels feels is a redundant statement. Then
Karal and Andrew discuss love lives and sleeping arrangements and you were in a library, people! There are children's books present! Behave! That includes you,
Andrew! I'm sure
Bob the librarian and his tea agree with me.
Xander: You've clearly never met some of the books that live in Special Collections.
Willow: I met the vastly inappropriate genie. It was enough.
Earlier in the day
Karal opened the Library, which I'm sure helped with the naughty-named club having.
Liir brings Karal lunch and Karal says that he loves Liir like a brother. To which the squirrels have added that they're sure the Winchesters and Petrellis would have volumes to say about brotherly love, and suggest that Liir and Karal take pictures if intending to follow their example.
Xander: I have never been happier to say that I have no idea what the squirrels are talking about.
Willow:
Art History talks about Ancient Roman art. They
make wolves in honor of the Lupercalia. I have to say that as fun as those kinds of spells are it's always the more responsible student who gets stuck having to walk them and feed them. So poor
Namine was probably online ordering a lot of rawhide chews during her TA time.
Xander: Buffy made a bear once. It didn't eat Spike. We were all very sad. Well, most of us.
Willow:
The Art of Cool discusses looking one's best. This apparently involves showing off Ron at his worst. Oh no, did he fail a test of some kind? Everyone gets a list of
fashion and hair styles that are causes for concern, and which do not cause others to respond well. Then everybody has a slumber party because they all
do each other's hair.
Ron was a very grumpy TA - hey, it could've been worse. You could've been pooper-scoopering after wolves - and he
discussed the matter with Tink, hopefully using lots of I statements.
Xander: I suggest 'I don't wanna pooper scooper after wolves' for start.
Willow:
My Country talked about
imports and exports. The noble nation of Gremlinistan imports chocolate and exports fuzzy kittens that sit on your lap and purr at you until you can't possibly be grumpy anymore. Admittedly this does annoy the other nations who went directly to exporting antidepressants.
And the
office is open.
Dorms, where a lot of people seem to be preparing for this 'Dance' thing
Xander: In the dorms, there was a whole lotta getting ready and picking up going on. And, uh. Some waking up. As a
baby elephant. As you do. If you're Peter Parker. And then there was mocking, as you do if you're Jamie Madrox. And if you're
Gwynn you hang out in your room watching DVDs.
But back to the getting and the picking: First up was
Jeff who did the getting while Turtle did the picking up... of pizza. Free advice, Jeff? Keep her. Just saying.
Amber,
Brooke and Michael,
Namine and Valentine,
Rikku,
Savannah and
Alex made with the getting ready. Makoto told Alex to make with the having fun at the dance, too.
Jack picked up Annette,
River picked up Adah, and
Guy Who Looks Like Angel picked up Aravis at which point there was some conversation about things that are making the squirrels giggle and how they're happening after the dance kthx.
Willow: Of course! Because it would be very inappropriate to forego the dance entirely for that sort of thing. Vastly. I can't imagine anyone doing that.
Xander:
Michael picked up Hoshi,
Kabuto picked up Ino but she wasn't too thrilled with his mask, and
Karal picked up Evey who wasn't too thrilled with masks at all.
Peter who Willow has no Problem with picked up Brooke, and
Practically Perfect Peter picked up Willow. To go to the dance. Where they danced. I'm guessing Other Peter Who's Not A Baby Elephant and Brooke did too, or at least they didn't slapfight or anything, because they were seen
walking back to the dorms together afterwards. Ditto for
John and Jaina.
Sam Winchester picked up Dean to -- oh is this what the squirrels meant? Wait, no, no, Sam brought Dean lunch and told him he was right about Dawn. I'm going to assume that sentence ended in 'having the shiniest hair ever' so I don't have to contemplate looking for my pokey stick.
Willow: She really does. It's like leave-in conditioner was built into her DNA.
Xander:
Somebody's gonna get poked when Turtle gets back to her room, I can tell you that. Not by me, I mean, but I hear she kicks hard, so whoever doused her room in pink glitter? You might not wanna be around when she gets home from the dance.
In news that's not for dancing about,
Caroline is going home. Sokka stopped in and found out it's only temporary, at least.
Lucas isn't happy about his roomie leaving, but he promised to keep in touch and send her pictures of gremlins. You should send her pictures of guys making out, too, dude. And an envelope full of glitter. If you want her to have a little piece of Fandom wherever she goes.
Willow: In the best common room ever
Rodney - hi Rodney! - settles in with coffee and a book. Oooo. If I hadn't been so busy at the dance I might've joined you. Who does join him, though, is an
elephant. Specifically an elephant that apparently challenged Rodney's geek-fu, because Rodney came back with books, hidden dimensions, and possibly loop quantum gravity. Which as we all know elephants have problems with.
Demyx comes in all excited to see Rodney and Rodney is not so much with returning the love but then there was making up and possibly even out with coffee. Not at the same time though, 'cause that'd be all burny.
Town, where there's a baby elephant loose in the park, no really we couldn't make this up if we tried
Xander: In news that surprises no one who's been listening to this broadcast, there was a
baby elephant loose in the park today.
Willow: Do you think the elephant went to the park because Rodney totally owned it with his geek-fu?
Xander: I was gonna say for the good grazing, but yours makes sense too. And in news that surprises no one who's been on the island for longer than a week,
Cable didn't talk much today. Oh, sorry, he didn't talk much on the beach, which I guess is kind of newsworthy compared to not talking much at Wellspring Arms. Where he also didn't talk much, because
Rikku opened it, but she made up for that by talking to
Romeo about the dance.
Willow: It's an event with people and punch and movement to music, but that's not important right now.
Xander:
Giles,
Yitzhak, and
Gabriel didn't talk much at the Magic Box, Luke's, and the church, unless they were talking to themselves. Or the books, the burgers, and the cat, which... knowing Giles at least is entirely possible.
Willow: He has been known to "Oh dear" when he thinks he's by himself. Or, uh, so I hear from those who have done things which sound way, way more stalkery than they actually were.
Xander:
Katara opened the clinic in the evening and got a visit from
Zack.
Sora opened Turtle and Canary, and
Sokka wandered in to talk about why anyone would ever create an oyster squishy WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE? DID YOU TAKE COOKING LESSONS FROM DAWN honey I love you but you know it's true ?
...And then he bought one. I.... man, I got nothin'.
Willow: Raise your hands if ewwwwwmy god not enough brain bleach in the world?
Xander: In tastier news,
Sky opened the frozen banana stand, and
Jen opened Pizza Planet; her
boss was there too.
Chad opened Groovy Tunes, and
River opened the Arms. The Arms, not her arms, except
Mary was there and they talked about Valentine's Day, so maybe there was hugging. Which would be pretty so I'm gonna say yes, there was hugging.
I'm pretty sure there was hugging at the Winchesterburn house, where
John helped Principal Zoe celebrate her birthday. Happy Birthday, Principal Zoe! The squirrels don't say how it was celebrated, so lets go with lots and lots of hugging. Yes. Go you two with the hugging.
In probably non-huggy news,
Liir opened Book Haven, and
Romeo apparently gets around, since he was over there talking about the dance too.
Which Willow was at. Dancing. With Peter. Who was also dancing.
Willow: At the Dance. For hours and hours. Just in case that wasn't clear.
Xander: Clear like finely-aged Sprite. You were dancing. With Peter. At the dance. Unlike
Mel, who hung out in the graveyard tonight. You do know you're allowed to have a social life, right, Mel? No dancing on a patrol night and every night is a patrol night is one of those things we're trying to phase out of the whole Watcher/Slayer tradition along with the trapped with a crazy vampire on your eighteenth birthday stuff.
Dance, which Willow and Peter had so much fun at it's almost embarassing
Willow: Today was the
Valentine's Dance which - woo - I couldn't even begin to tell you how utterly awesome it was. Because it was. Utterly. I noticed the awesomeness as soon as Peter and I got there, and in fact remarked upon it.
It starts as so many things do, with folks
arriving.
Dojima and Rikku decide there is no reason to create false advertising within the event name, so they go right for the dancing. Rikku thinks
Romeo looks quite Romey-yum, though I'm sure everyone understands if I don't think he was the handsomest boy at the dance.
Rikku wonders about
Ron's lack of mask. Which sounds sad but consider the alternative of complimenting him on his mask when he wasn't wearing one.
Troy and Sky - are we calling them Try now? - make with the punch-drinking. Good for them as it is always important to keep hydrated.
Ronan asks Johnny about Savannah. Here's hoping Johnny kept his answers to something respectable. Ronan then chats with
Hoshi.
Adam and Eve arrive.
...
Okay, people, I realize sometimes radio can be ha-ha funny but seriously that is not cause to just make things up! I think we would've all noticed the no-belly-buttons people. Sheesh.
Then there are tons more arrivals.
River and Adah,
Hoshi and Michael,
Brooke and inferior Peter - oh honey, by definition you can do better. Not with my Peter though. Find another one. Or try that
Romeo guy you were talking to. Getting back to the list of those doing the opposite of departing, we have
John and Jaina,
Shawn and Summer,
Bridge and Xander - hi Bridge! -
Jeff and Turtle,
Jim and Pam,
Karal and Evey,
Gavin and Inara, and
Snacks and Punch!
Oh, wait, that was the heading of another note section. Sorry about that. But before we move on of course Peter and I were also there, and thus we made with the arriving. As did
Luke and Jo,
Namine and Valentine,
Ino and Kabuto - and I'm told Kabuto is grumpy. Sounds like someone needs a kitten.
Liir and Andrew arrive. Liir owes
Ino a dance.
Seely and Avaris are there and Seely is surprised about the lack of pink. I noticed that very thing myself and remarked upon it to Peter while he was getting drinks for the both of us.
Johnny tells Savannah she looks wonderful in red. Hopefully that was the color she was wearing, otherwise kinda awkward.
Triela asks Amber what they're supposed to do now. In general you dance at dances. They are not named very complicatedly. Namine says hi to
Dojima. Liir shows Romeo his
Victorian suit. I hope he was wearing it because wow would it be a pain to carry that around all night.
Sokka thinks Ron needs a little mystery. And maybe a pat on the butt, if I know Sokka.
Alex says hi to Ron,
Jenny says hi to Ronan. Sokka feels
Reno's outfit lacked effort. Please tell me Reno wasn't naked.
Rikku insists that Sokka has to dance with her. Hopefully in a polite way and not, like, involving knives or threatened pets or something. If so then my guess at the topic of conversation between Sokka and
Turtle and Jeff would be something like "Get me Agent Cooper, STAT!"
Hoshi tells
Alex that her dress is cute. I assume she means Alex's dress, because otherwise it's just bragging.
Hermione and Ferris talk about turning the dorm into a fort. Considering all the things that attack here that might not be a bad idea.
Back to food!
Try decides to live up to their portmanteau with some chocolate.
Rikku and Reno call each other dorks.
Turtle bounced at Hoshi which is, as we all know, way less painful than bouncing on.
John "Blue Team Totally Rules" Sheppard checked on Luke.
Luke tells Jaina that Jo prefers it when people shower. I think I read a Bitterwoman fic that started with that very premise.
Xander: You read a fic about Jo showering with Bitterwoman? ...No. Not asking for a link. Not. Instead, talking about
Dick screaming like a girl. Which is what Marco told Annette.
Amber and Liir talked about who set up the dance, and
Hermione said hi to Ron.
Rikku asked Luke for a dance, and she and
John decided to hit the boogie-floor too.
Jeff waved to Hoshi, and I guess that started the Wave going because then
Bridge waved at Jenny. Who was wearing a dress that
Lucas liked.
Romeo and Reno debated the merits of spiking the punch - notes don't say if they did but if so I got to it beforehand. Dammit.
Andrew and John compared their nights - little early for that isn't it, guys? And
Jim and Pam and
Karal and Evey stopped to marvel at the awesometastic punch fountain.
Willow: Turtle asked
Marco if he'd found a date. And Peter and I totally tore it up on the dance floor.
Xander: I must've been getting some chocolate then or something. Or maybe you were just dancing in a dark corner. Hey, you ever think it's funny that Fandom has almost as many
dark corners as Sunnydale, but like, only about a fifth of the monster population? No? Just me?
There might've been a monster or two in the dark corners at the dance but the notes only mention people. Specifically
Andros,
Johnny and Eve,
Lucas and Namine,
Adah and Lee,
Amber and... a dapper stranger,
Annette and a dapper stranger, and
Cimorene and .... wait for it.... a dapper stranger. Dude. My hat, which is also at least slightly dapper if I do say so myself, is off to you.
Over in the
Chaperone Corner where the adults who aren't dating students hang out, it wasn't as shadowy. Presumably so you can, y'know, find a chaperone if you need one.
Bond,
Aly,
Mike Cannon,
Ghanima,
Juli,
Steve, and
Vala -- who got
whistled at by Biff and then whistled right back, you go not-the-girl-I-went-to-high-school-with -- are totally available for your chaparoning needs. Also
Kerrigan who was talking to River, and
Barney and Biff who were making bets while
Barney flirted with Tink and got
told off by Ron Weasley. So did
Tink. And
Ghanima asked Biff why he painted her students blue. I'm guessing the answer there is "Because I could." That's usually how it works with painting people.
Willow: Either that or you're trying to start a show in Vegas. Or you're GOB's brother in law
Xander: Meanwhile you and Peter were out tearing something up on the dancefloor, and if I didn't see you it's probably just because there were a lot of people taking up space. Chatting it up like
Anemone and Cassandra, or dancing like
Dojima and Romeo,
Johnny and Savannah,
Romeo and Rikku,
Ron and Rikku,
Adam and-- I guess they weren't kidding, Eve,
Peter and Brooke totally not having a slapfight,
John and Jaina,
me and a guy in a green mask that I really hope was Bridge,
Ino and Kabuto,
Liir and Andrew - okay yeah, I agree, now get the glitter flag out of my face and go back to your squirrel-pile -
Annette and Marco,
Rikku and Reno,
Rikku and John,
Karal and Andrew,
Ino and Liir,
Eve,
Hoshi,
Rikku and Dapper Stranger,
Amber and Dapper Stranger and
Annette and Dapper Stranger. And once again, my hat's off to you, dude.
Willow: Sounds like Dapper Stranger danced with nearly as many people as Rikku. Shame we weren't keeping score.
Xander: Well, it's Valentine's Dance Night. I'm sure some of us were scoring.
Willow: I WAS NOT - uh... yes. Some people. I'm sure.
Xander: And some of us probably want to get back to our significant others of us just in case there needs to be a re-count.
Willow: Yes! You do that! I fully support you in this decision. Absolutely. Have fun!
Xander: Good night, Fandom! Be careful stumbling home no matter who you're stumbling home with!
