They admit they screwed up and are looking into reinstatement and have announced an appeals process.

More as it transpires - as of 8 am eastern time, pornish_pixies hadn't been restored but they've said that things will be within the next 7 hours or so, and if they're not, an appeal still can be made.

I'm surprised they didn't address the "You only acted because we threatened youra dd revenue" aspect of the WFI bit.

It seems pretty naive not to realize that a lot of poeple might be ocnisdered over the fact that all you need to do to make LJ act like a chicken wiht it's head cut off is threaten their pockets.
Which jsut plays into the whole blow up voer having adds in the first place.

Still though, fair apologize. Actually more than I expected.

Actually, I found the apology lacking. He never apologized to the users (IE, "So, to sum it all up, we apologize humbly to our users for this awful mistake"), all he did was say "We're sorry", which doesn't really say for what or to whom. He also should have given an apology specifically to those victims of rape/childabuse/etctra in banning their communities and journals...

Only then will I get some faith back.

If they start restoring wrongfully suspended stuff, that'll go a long way to starting rebuild my now-nonexistant trust in them.

I'm in wait'n'see mode right now. And I'm still not comfortable anymore.

Is it just me, or does that stink of an incomplete draft? There's spelling mistakes, strikethroughs and some really strange wording that just makes me wonder whether there's more to come. Like they had to get something out (eventually) but it's still the incorrect thing he was so scared that a "whoops there's something going on we're working it out" post would have been about 24 hours earlier.

I have to agree with you. The wording is SO ambiguous that I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. 0.0

The vast and various responses really makes one wonder if we got as far in the idea of a "unified front" as we thought. Some folks are like "Oh, well, that's fine." Others are Like "Oh, no, not good enough, I still hate you." Then there's folks like me who are somewhere in the middle going "oh, well, THANKS for finally saying something. . . But sayin' ain't doin, so y'all better get to doin!"

(I appologize for any typos- running on a pot of coffee and some orange and ginger chicken at the moment X_X)

The fact that they're restoring journals and comms is a good start, as is the fact that users will be allowed to appeal and explain why their journal should be reinstated if theirs is questionable. On the other hand they aren't saying much about how this incident is going to affect their TOS and policies in future, and given the shaky ground that fanfic and fan-activities stand on that's what I'm really interested in. Support and discussion groups are one thing; they deal with real life and non-fiction stuff that, in Berkowitz's words, help "understand and prevent [child abuse and incest etc.]" but fanfic/RPGs/etc on the same subjects are usually for the purposes of entertainment or titillation.
