Daniel noticed that the group was breaking into smaller groups, playing "Welcome the Newcomers," and he stood back to watch the disassembly. He was drifting around and near enough to hear the unidentified man tell Rodney to come with him. Fortunately, he also heard the woman who'd identified herself earlier as "Commander Ivanova" explain the man's behavior

Don't assume it's over for good. Not everyone is gonna like everyone here, you know. Just 'cause it didn't devolve into a brawl doesn't mean there won't still be conflict.
I said sorta. Can definitely see lots of friction coming with Ivonova. So many telepaths. The poor woman with either develop an eye twitch or turn into queen bitch. Or psycho axe murderer... LOL
Don't forget... Talia was Susan's best friend... Talia was a P5, a commercial teep, and Susan harbors deep resentment for the Corps taking her away. So, this could go either way, depending upon how it gets played from here on. :)
Scott did not like Commander Susan Ivanova. On top of the typical military "When I say jump, you ask how high" attitude, she had some sort of grudge against telepaths despite being telepathic herself. And she'd insulted his wife. Fortunately cooler heads had prevailed during the confrontation, so Scott had held his tongue.
As Ivanova turned to leave Scott noticed the dried blood on her shirt. "Wait," he blurted, "are you hurt? You said you were in a battle."
Susan paused in her step, having only gotten a single pace away. There was work to be done, again... she had to get things set up before too long. Marcus was hardly able to build his own, and she wasn't about to ask for anyone to do it for her, or for the Ranger for that matter. It was work that could take her mind off of a great deal of things

Marie was relieved when the pending argument was cooled down by some cooler-thinking folks. She didn't always do well with conflict.
The display of powers was a bit disconfitting, but in a different way to her than to Ivanova. She'd assumed that her Ami - a telekinetic - had gotten her powers the same time Marie had, in the Deluge. But what if she hadn't? Had she had powers Before, just as magic, as evidenced by Llaeseaf, had existed Before? That didn't build her confidence in noticing peoples' abilities too much.
On the other hand, it was looking like unusual abilities were accepted in here, maybe a gift as dangerous as pyrokinesis. Not that she'd readily admit that she had that gift, but there was indication that people wouldn't totally freak out in this place if they found out about it.
"Putting up shelter would be a good thing," Marie said. "If I remember correctly, rain is common in the tropics, and unfortunately, I have a few books that would become damaged in such a storm."
Ami kept quiet when Scott offered to heal Ivanova. Just because the woman pissed her off and rubbed her the wrong way was no reason to behave like a child or to be petty.
She watched his retreating backside with a smile full of appreciation for a few moments before turning to Marie. "Right then, why don't we get started on that shelter bit? We can take a look around at some of the shelters and see if there's something that you fancy. I'm rather good with the weaving of leaves and thick stems for mats, and I can teach you that.
"You might want to park your cart somewhere first. I can't imagine that dragging it around the beach is going to be very easy."
"Thanks," Marie said. "I'll probably park it near... that really big tent. In a minute."
She dug the clothes out of the duffel bag, glad that she'd picked the larger size, and stuffed the books, board games, soap, and legal pads inside. She managed to zip it up.
"As for how I got here, I really have no idea. Last I remember, the year was 2261, and we'd just gotten our asses handed to us by one of the nastiest aliens we'd ever met." Susan's voice drops a little, "Before we'd actually made contact, they were the stuff of stories, too many days spent in hyperspace, or out on the rim." She shrugged in an attempt to keep it a little lighter. The memories were just way too fresh still.
"Life pods ejected, and... here I am on a tropical island, under some mushroom rock. With friends."
John whistled as he listened to Ivanova detail how she'd arrived here. "Sounds like you got out just in the nick of time, I'd say. Being shot at by enemy aliens is never something you want to stick around and enjoy. I'd know," he said with a friendly smile. "Had my ass handed to me by more aliens than I care to remember, truth be told."
She paused, leaned forward a little, the smile remaining. "This making any sense to you? Even just a little?"John laughed a little and nodded, "Believe it or not, I've heard a great

The Commander chuckled softly, wryly, as she nodded. "Yes... though, this one was a biggie. I'm never above having people help, but that particular one, we were alone." Still, it was good having someone around that understood and pretty much shared the experience. Marcus did, of course, but in this case, he was taken as a 'given'. As was Stephen. "Well, I'm glad it does to someone. And, yeah... I'm glad I'm here rather than 'out there'." Nothing to go back to 'out there'. Not now
