FTEC, Tuesday Night

Dec 05, 2006 21:40

Natalie arrived on shift, grateful to see that most of the beds had been vacated since she'd left early Monday morning. She checked on the remaining patient(s). After updating their charts, she then went about setting up the artificial Christmas tree she'd lugged in with her. With "over 1000 lights," it was sure to leave an impression.

The quiet notes of Christmas carols drifted through the lobby as Natalie rounded the tree, hanging brightly-colored glass orbs and beaded garland.

A frantic Clark Kent ran in, slightly quicker than might seem normal for a human. A pale Martha Kent cradled in his arms.

"Help me!" he gasped. "Please!"

The box of ornaments shoved aside, Natalie moved and immediately began checking Martha's vital signs. "What happened?" she asked, leading the way to the exam room.

"We were in the park," clark said. "And she, she collapsed. The doctors said she'd be all right to travel but...s-she...c-cancer. Uh, pancreatic cancer. She has." He was stammering, trying to think of all the relevent information, even as he was cursing the doctors for letting her out of their sight.

Natalie sighed, nodding. At least now she knew what she was dealing with. She helped Clark ease Martha down onto the bed and attempted to make her comfortable. "I'll need contact information for her doctors." She wheeled over a couple of monitors and began applying the sensors.

Her lips drew taut. She didn't have the proper equipment to treat an oncology patient. The best she could do would be to make them comfortable. Or bring them across, which, she thought, is out of the question.

[Done now. Promise.]

Clark had them on speed dial. "I, uhm, I have documentation back at my office. At the hotel. H-here's the number." he showed her his cell phone. "I'm, I'm not sure what time it is there."

The Lab drlambert December 6 2006, 05:10:01 UTC
Natalie headed for the lab after getting Martha Kent settled in. As the sample spun up, she put a call in to Mrs. Kent's oncologist and left a message with the service.

Once she had the stats on Mrs. Kent's blood sample, she added the information to the chart, making sure to keep it legible for the morning shift.

[Establish-y.]
