FTEC, Tuesday Night

Dec 05, 2006 21:40

Natalie arrived on shift, grateful to see that most of the beds had been vacated since she'd left early Monday morning. She checked on the remaining patient(s). After updating their charts, she then went about setting up the artificial Christmas tree she'd lugged in with her. With "over 1000 lights," it was sure to leave an impression.

"We were in the park," clark said. "And she, she collapsed. The doctors said she'd be all right to travel but...s-she...c-cancer. Uh, pancreatic cancer. She has." He was stammering, trying to think of all the relevent information, even as he was cursing the doctors for letting her out of their sight.

Natalie sighed, nodding. At least now she knew what she was dealing with. She helped Clark ease Martha down onto the bed and attempted to make her comfortable. "I'll need contact information for her doctors." She wheeled over a couple of monitors and began applying the sensors.

Her lips drew taut. She didn't have the proper equipment to treat an oncology patient. The best she could do would be to make them comfortable. Or bring them across, which, she thought, is out of the question.

[Done now. Promise.]

Clark had them on speed dial. "I, uhm, I have documentation back at my office. At the hotel. H-here's the number." he showed her his cell phone. "I'm, I'm not sure what time it is there."

Making a note on the patient information form she'd started, Natalie nodded. "I'll call them as soon as I get back out front." She expertly extracted a vial of blood for examination. "For now, we'll get her comfortable, and go from there.

"Did she mention feeling weaker than normal? Had she over done it while you were out, visiting?"

"No we've been carefull to take it easy. Though, I wasn't sure taking her out to the park in the cold was such a good idea."

Nat shook her head. "The cold alone shouldn't have really affected her. And I can't imagine any decent doctor allowing her out of their sight if she was this bad..." She rubbed her forehead in frustration. Looking back to Clark, she forced a smile. "I'll do what I can. In the meantime, feel free to stay with her...and let me know if you need anything."

"Thank you Doctor." clark said softly, sinking into a chair. He tried to regain his composure.

Natalie patted him on a shoulder. "You're very welcome, Mr. Kent." With a slight smile, she slipped out of the room.
