Gallifrey...

I actually truly enjoyed the Christmas special. I thought it was well written, David was as excellent as ever, and they emphasised the horror that came with being the Doctor, which is all I could ask for. The bride even grew on me; Catherine Tate was excellent, too. It almost made me wish she would be his companion ( Read more... )

AHEM.

I'M GIVEN TO UNDERSTAND THAT YOU HAVE REQUESTED A MESSAGE.

UNFORTUNATELY, MY AREA IS SOMEWHAT SPECIALISED. MESSAGES ARE...SHORT NOTICE.

WHY DOES HUMANITY PLACE SUCH EMPHASIS ON THE EXCHANGE OF USELESS INFORMATION IN THIS FORM? I MEAN, IT IS HARDLY ENRICHING TO THE FABRIC OF HUMAN EXISTENCE. WHY DOES IT MATTER IF AUNTIE MABEL SAID SOMETHING AMUSING TO COUSIN ERIC OVER THE HOGSWATCH SHERRY? WHY DOES IT NEED TO BE RECORDED FOR POSTERITY IN MESSAGE FORMAT?

I'M TOLD THESE THINGS HAVE A CUSTOMARY FORM.

DEAR FAN'.

HOW ARE YOU? I AM QUITE WELL.

I DO HOPE -

THIS IS RIDICULOUS. I KNOW EXACTLY HOW SHE IS, ALBERT, WHY AM I WRITING THIS? I KNOW EXACTLY HOW EVERYONE IS.

HAPPY HOGSWATCH.

HO.HO.HO.

Happy Hogswatch to you, too. (The pillow's sticking out of your coat a bit, but your Ho-ho-ho has greatly improved. Kudos!)

And I'm personally of a mind that words actually do enrich the fabric of human existence, as well as laughter. Thank you.

Um. You don't happen to know if we might meet any time soon?

THANK YOU. I AM NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE CONCEPT OF KUDOS, BUT I UNDERSTAND IT TO BE A COMPLIMENT.

WORDS ARE OF VARYING LEVELS OF IMPORTANCE. LAUGHTER IS A PURELY HUMAN CONTRIVANCE TO ATTEMPT TO DISGUISE THE TEDIOUS INEVITABLITY OF THEIR HUMDRUM LIVES. AND YET THEY ARE ALWAYS RELUCTANT TO MEET ME.

YOUR QUESTION IS NOT UNUSUAL. YES, I KNOW WHEN WE ARE DUE TO MEET. MY APPOINTMENTS DIARY IS RATHER EXTENSIVE.

It is, it is, absolutely. Like congratulations? Yes.

But it's such a wonderful disguise. Ask Albert. Better yet, ask your granddaughter. I'm sure she could explain. As for the reluctance - well, see, there's the tedious inevitability of our humdrum lives, but there are all the disguises we hide that behind, and those disguises really are lots of fun. (You don't get sex either, do you?)

And let me guess, you're not about to let me know? Help me keep my own appointments diary clear?

My Dearest Ms. Elune
On The Occasion of The Yule and Letter Writing,

Given to the written word even as I am, I confess, a less than perfect grasp of written correspondence - evidence, you see, which, while important to maintain the verisimilitude of inspiring generations yet to advance upon us, also can place at great risk those for whom I care a good deal.

There is, of course, the merit of extending good will, and wishes, and great hopes to all. You extend you beliefs, and for that, my star, you are beyond reproach. Educate others, as you would have them educate unto you... no that's not quite the quote, is it, but very nearly nigh unto correct, or something etc etc. Never give up. Never surrender. And pull your love and joy and most importantly your human basis from everything that surrounds you: absorb, my child. Absorb.

Nothing is below the attention of the human eye.

Yours, in great security,
love,
hope,
vim,
and vigor,

V

Fan,

If Dean knew I was leaving you a message, he'd probably kill me. But you know what? I bet you he's left somebody a message before, just like he told Cassie our secret, so I don't care...though, I'm kind've worried about him.

Digressing.

We've been travelling forever in search of this damn demon, and instead of answers we've gotten more questions. I'm no closer to avenging Jessica than I was when I started--

Secretly? I kind've don't care. I missed Dean more than I realized. I just hope this whole thing doesn't end up killing him like it did dad.

I know you probably don't care about any of that, and I really have no idea why I'm telling you. I guess it felt good to tell somebody who doesn't hold a friggin' rifle constantly. Anyway, um..happy holidays?

Sam!

Happy holidays right back atcha. And to Dean, too, even though from what you told me I wouldn't expect him to be the holiday type. Force some holiday cheer onto him! Deck the Impala with boughs of holly or something.

And of course I care about all of that! You know I'm always there when you need a shoulder or an ear. Even a pair of those. If you ask me, it's a good thing that the avenging bloodlust isn't driving you anymore. That was way more dangerous than any demon. (Okay, maybe not. I know, there are some really fucking dangerous demons out there.) But, you know, that was dangerous in ways a demon couldn't be.

You two just focus on staying alive. For each other. And you get your ass (and his while you're at it, I have to meet the famous Dean some day!) over here some time soon, yeah?

Have a blast for New Year's Eve - hopefully not literally.

You vixen, you Cleopatra. I could go on but I don't want to burn your lovely ears. You know how much I admire them.

Fan', I read your appalling note.

Distance makes the heart grow fonder? What a load of imbecilic horse shit. Next you'll be telling me that you believe all the other proverbial garbage they want us to swallow, like Appearances Don't Matter, and Aren't We All People In The End?

We, the two of us Fan', are above such things. Don't you dare stay away for the rest of summer. The grapes and vines will do just fine without you reading your Voltaire aloud to them. Or whatever it is you do down there. Manhattan is such a bore without you.

Miserable
and in suspense,

Sebastian,

Did I send that note to you? I'm atrociously sorry, you truly can't find efficient help these days if they still make such irritating mistakes. That was intended for this incredibly sweet girl who can do things with her tongue even you have no idea about. If things develop the way I hope them to, she might just do them to me in front of you in the near future. Sweet is only a phase, and I'm a great way to get over it.

Yes, of course, I read Voltaire. Sebastian, please. I'm me. Do let's be realistic. The Marquis de Sade would be more likely. (I don't know if the grapes like it, but I did manage to educate quite a few vine workers.)

I'll probably be back in Manhattan in a few days. I'll be waiting for you in your bedroom.

Do send Kathryn my deepest loathing, and try not to hurt yourself too much with the misery and boredom my absence brings,

Your apology is accepted. If the Marquis does teach you any new tricks, I expect you'll demonstrate them for me when you come to make your amends.

As for your sugar-plum fairy and her inventive tongue. Care to make a wager on that? Let's ante up the stakes this time. Say, your Faberge necklace? But by all means, bring her along. Truss her, if you have to. Or better, truss her even if you don't have to.

Kathryn says fuck you very much too. It's so nice to see her grow into her newly elected position of authority.

My God, Fan'. Save me.

Sebastian,

If? Are you doubting the Marquis?

Now, let's see about the interest part of this deal. What will I get when it turns out that she could teach you a trick or two?

Trussed up it will be, and I to your rescue,

Fan'
