Factors that may change your temp

Aug 03, 2007 13:03

I thought it would be handy to have a list of factors which may change your temperature. I'll put the ones I've thought of here, and if people comment I'll keep revising the list, including moving things into different categories if need be as I'm guessing for several of them.

List )

restless sleep, temping, awake before temping, vaginal temping

I was thinking the same as you about the broken night's sleep. I don't know where to place it, since it seems like a restless sleep for me ends up lowering my temp, but I'm pretty sure that's uncommon. I think "influence either way" could either become a useful category, or as the opinions roll in, the category that eventually every statement will enter.
Drinking alcohol the night before should be included under either definite or probable raising of temp.
Awesome, very useful idea by the way! *applauds*

I think I've had my temp go either way from poor sleep, yes.

I don't drink and never have so I have no idea what it feels like if you've drunk alcohol the night before. More opinions, people?

Well, you feel really light headed and happy, kinda giddy and then all of a sudden it's like all your energy was drained and you have to sleep likerightnoworelse! and depending on how much you've had to drink, you could wake up craving water, or sleep like a rock, or feel sick and dizzy all night...depends on the person.

haha! I've noticed that sometimes if I have just one drink the night before, my temp will be higher the next morning, while sometimes if I have 3 drinks it will be about the same, and vice versa. It seems though that if I don't feel well the next morning, the temp will be higher, and if I feel fine, it's usually normal-ish. (i'm still working out what exactly normal is, not that that will ever end.)

I can attest that sleeping with the covers off, the window open, and a fan on full blast all night lowers your temp significantly. It's been so bloody hot that I'm downing glasses of ice water and numerous slushies right before bed, taking cold showers, sleeping with only a sheet, the fan on, the window open...and my chart actually looks like it's been reversed, you can see the clear downward shift where the outside temps went up and I started the above nightly rituals and my temperature went down:

My temperature usually stays in the 36.1 - 36.4 range before shifting up to 36.5+ after ovulation.

You know, just for research purposes :)

Drinking more than 2 or more alcoholic drinks the night before will raise your temperature as well.

Should I put that down as a probable or a definite?

Probable. Most of the time it does it for me, not every.

I know this is weird but 4 out of 5 times in my luteal phase, I get lower-than-expected temps on the weekends. All I can figure out is it has something to do with staying up later than usual. I don't drink alcohol or anything. All I do is stay up later. It only happens in my luteal phase, and it's very consistant.

So... Yeah...

Sleeping under a window makes a huge difference in my chart. If I am late by 10 minutes in the fall (because of the time change) my temp goes up because the sun is high enough to be shining on me and it warms up my body. Although, this might only be me.
