I recently saw the video for the latest coldplay single, viva la vida. While the song is easily one of the best on the record and one of my favorite tracks by the band to date, the video misses the mark and comes off looking lazy ( Read more... )

I'm not sure I get the concept. The idea is that the band has shrunk themselves and is playing inside the body of a teleidoscope??

But yeah, definitely bland. And the song is so grand and sweeping. It deserves a video just as big and grand. They should be playing in the Grand Canyon, or in the center of a black hole

The only thing I can figure is that it's because the album is a massive international hit. The video has to be relatable to people in Japan, Australia, Germany... not just here. And how do you appeal to the most people? With the simplest message.

there is no concept, the footage was just gussied up and run through photoshop. the only remotely cool part is at the end of the video, where they look like they're dissovling.

i agree, with the sweep and scope, and the band's money, they could have picked a much better location to film. even 30 seconds to mars filmed their latest video on on a fucking glacier. and all they have going for them is jared leto.

and yes, he outhots all of coldplay, but still.

Oh, and isn't the Spanish bad too? Shouldn't it be "vidar"??

no, i don't think so.

viva la vida directly translates to live the life, which is probably some sort of tie in to the story in the song.

Oh, see I thought they were going for "Long live life!"

it could mean that too, it just kind of depends on inflection. and since there are aren't exclamation points in the title, it's difficult to figure out the intent.

maybe that's the point, though?
