"I want to go to the park and play with the puppies." Lilith stated simply one morning as she walked down the stairs. Her blond pigtails perfectly even as the mother of the meat-suit that she was wearing tried to desperately keep up and continue brushing out the few tangles. She looked at the two older men sitting in the living room each with a coffee and a copy of the morning paper.
The taller one was reading the medical section, a long sleeved button up shirt covered with a heavy sweater vest. His hair was cropped close to his head, and he had light blue eyes. When Lilith spoke he looked up and smirked more than smiled, his eyes crinkled around the corners though the warmth did not reach into them. This was Alistair and little actually warmed his heart and his eyes. He didn't say anything, just slightly moved his head in a gesture of agreement. After that he folded up his paper and began to go about getting his shoes on and placing his coffee cup in the sink for the mother to wash while they were out. Just because he was a demon didn't make him like clutter or filth.
The second male who was reading the Business section of the paper had also turned to look when Lilith spoke, and his smile seemed cat-like. His eyes were green and vibrant, Crowley was much more emotive than Alistair on the usual, but their temperaments aside from what they showed were so very different. "Darlin' anything you want." He said, standing up, already completely dressed in a three piece suit. The King of the Crossroads never went anywhere half dressed. As he passed the wall he pulled down three leashes and collars and headed into the basement to gather up the hell-pups. They weren't necessarily small...but they weren't nearly full grown yet. He left his cup sitting on the table, ignored and irrelavent.
Alistair returned from putting on his shoes to foot of the stairs and awaited Lilith to continue downward, which she did, but stopped three steps up. She held out short arms and made the typical 'pick me up' motion. Alistair obliged, and Lilith lay her head on his shoulder as she played with one of the buttons on his shirt idly. "I like this color on you, Alistair, it matches your body's eyes." Her voice is sweet but from the way her hands moved, one could tell that Lilith was no ordinary little girl.
Crowley came back with the three hell-pups on their leashes, the collars seeming to float in mid air. At least to the humans, but the three demons saw the large black dogs, all teeth and lolling tongues, glowing eyes and the smell of Hell on their flesh. "Shall we go? I think the pups are really wantin' that walk." There was only a little strain in Crowley's arm as he held the three leashes, but the sound of straining leather punctuated his sentence for him.
And with that they headed outside, the park was a quick walk away, and since the whole town was either dead or possessed...was there really any need for secrecy?
The park came into view and it was something to behold, children strung along the playground equipment. Lilith almost squealed with delight at the sight of it, and Alistair could feel her purr of pleasure vibrate through her and into him. She was nearly fidigiting in his arms and as soon as they reached the edge of the park he sat her down in the grass and watched her run off to the equipment. He could feel her joy in the air like smoke from a hell fire, it smelled of sulfur and damnation.
Crowley leaned down and let the hounds off of their leashes and laughed as they all took off at a lope to go and play with Lilith. Those damned hell hounds loved that girl. The two older...well at least their bodies were older, demons sat down on the grass and watched as Lilith found a bit to play fetch with...she found a limb that wasn't being used and wrenched it out of socket, another quick twist later and she was happily playing fetch with the hounds.
"Is that a whole arm?" Crowley asked conversationally to Alistair after watching her toss the limb about a few times and giggling happily when the dogs brought it back to her. The hounds weren't even halfway grown, but still they dwarfed Lilith's small frame.
Alistair chuckled and replied with, "Yes, I believe so." He wasn't really to big on small talk.
They sat in comfortable silence just watching her play. Her sense of wonder and awe at the work that demons did never seemed to dull. Lilith had been alive for Eons in hell, and still, everything she did she still had a sense that this was still fun for her, still exciting. "She still acts like this is the first time, every time we paint a town red is just like the first."
"She, unlike all of the other demons was pure at one time, Crowley. She takes children to recapture that purity." Alistair said, as he watched the girl playing. His eyes held something akin to love, perhaps it was only respect. Alistair was fully capable of emotions, but they didn't run to the soft side of things. He loved Lilith as much as he could, even if his love for the demoness was still totally eclipsed by his love of the work he did in Hell. He felt even less for Crowley, but the King of the Crossroads was more tolerable and intelligent than the others, Lilith aside. Crowley could perhaps say the same, though he cared about himself, and his standing as Crossroads King, more than anything else. Lilith, well Lilith cared about Lucifer first and foremost.
So perhaps they were an odd set, but at least they could say they 'cared' about one another. Even if they were demons, there was a certain respect, a certain understanding. Perhaps they did love each other, at least...as much as they could. There was an honesty there that most people lacked, they each knew of the others' first Love, and they still functioned well. How many humans could say that?
