So I was recently thinking about this issue, and have raised myself quite a conundrum. I am a Pagan. I hope to marry a Pagan. And I hope to raise my children Pagan. But how do you do so in a largely Christian dominated society? How do you teach your children that when the other kids tell them they're weird or wrong for not believing in Jesus, that ( Read more... )

The only thing you should do is help your children research all the different religions, regardless of what you want. A pagan pushing their religion is no better than a Christian pushing theirs. Pagans are not exempt from making the same mistakes that any other religion out there do.

Don't be disappointed if your children reject your beliefs, even if you do try to be understanding. My mom did that to me, and that hurts worse than anyone telling me I'm going to Hell because I didn't hand my life over to God.

Raising a child with no religion and assuming they'll fall into the mainstream is a ridiculous idea. And even if they DO fall into the mainstream, who the fuck really cares, you know? If they have a good head on their shoulders, and you raise them properly, there's no reason why that child wouldn't grow up to be a decent Christian person. Or a good Buddhist. Or Hinduist. Or Satanist. Or Catholic. And everything inbetween.

I don't want to raise my children with no religion. I do want them to be Pagan, but when they do get to an age where religion will actually make sense to them, I will encourage & HELP them research other religions. I would LIKE them to be Pagan, but I'm not going to be dissappointed if they aren't. My mom WANTED me to be Christian, but totally supported me being Pagan when I chose it. I don't resent being brought up Christian, and I don't think my children will resent growing up Pagan....

I would gladly raise my children with no religion, until they were developed enough to comprehend it all. Death and the afterlife and how to treat people properly, and the idea of something bigger than you is hard to wrap your mind around when you're a kid (hell, people still have trouble with it once they're an adult). I don't want to be responsible for my child growing up too fast.
