A celebration of Life

The doors and windows have been flung wide open - the better to catch what little air moves down here - and all are wreathed in twining Delphinium and Lilies, perfuming the hot air that wafts down this particular street of the Bazaar, into the building itself.  The whole building is wide open, from the first to the second floor.  The reception hall ( Read more... )

`Oh. It is that man.` Cassius and their little brown bat make their way over to the food area. They have been promising him crickets once they get back in Spite, but for themself and now, they have decided to start with some cake (and to check for Gloucester cheese).

"Good evening, Mr. Puz?"

He turns, Brie-on-Biscuit held quite securely in one hand, a glass (With Ice!) in the other. A wry grin shakes the crumbs from his moustache.

"Cassius! How charming to see you! I hope you are well! How fare your Ladies?"

Cassius has a small laugh at the pluralisation (it's true though), and offers a smile in return to the grin.

"My ladies and me are quite well, and well." A look over to the tall blond gentleman all dressed in white with gold--Their smile becoming a grin. "And preparing for our trip quite soon now that we have hired a navigator."

He almost seems relieved at this. Nevertheless, his eyes widen with interest. Also, he presumes Cassius to merely be looking off to the side, as he notes no apparent lady where their gaze goes...

"Indeed? Whom have you hired? When do you set sail? How is life, otherwise? Am I correct in hearing that you were mentioned in the broadsheets?"

"Yes, and yes. But my belle hired her, and I have yet to learn her name. Narciso has been referring to her as a 'navigatrix', in any case. Though whether that is her own self-title, or his, I do not know at this time. And we still need to discuss an actual date to leave." They stop their watching of the gentleman flitting around and look back at Puz. "...Yes, it was over a case I just recently closed. Bringing three armed men into custody--with the help of a hunter, of course. And yourself; how biss?"

His eyebrow bobs at the slang... he'd had proper drilled into him years ago, but he lets this pass without comment. Besides, he had a 'canned' response to present...

"Oh, multiple ventures of debatable significance. A contract here, consultation there... Oh! I hope to save up a sufficient quantity to support moving my office to somewhere more lucrative ."

His eyebrows 'waggle' at that last statement, and he sips his beverage.

And this is a person that has had an avoidance to contracting words drilled into them. (Helps with the accent after all, not that they aren't proud of it.)

As for his 'canned' response, the 'multiple ventures of debatable significance' makes it obvious, and they have to look over the cheeses again to keep from smirking. "'Lucrative'?" They look back again at that.

"Is it not obvious?" Puz, too, has an avoidance of contractions. Funny, that.
"When one seeks to improve their venture, one stratagem is to move to where business is thriving and thrumming. And where, Cassius, is the Lion's Share of business bustling in all of London?"

He somehow manages to wave his hand, eat some Brie, wave his hand again to lead them to the inevitable answer, and once-again eat brie-on-biscuit in one... maybe three motions.

They never take their eyes off his waving hand, finding the gesture more amusing than anything. "Ah, so The Bazaar then. Well I am sure that you already know how competitive such a location can be. My office's filing cabinets actually came from a law office that once was at The Bazaar." Finally piecing out a bit of something that may or may not be the type of cheese they are looking for, and picking it up. "But with your specialisation, then you might just find a ready market." And they take a bite.

"Such is my hope," he concurs, his mouth devoid of any foodstuffs. "I would hate for the scenario to go awry... for then what would I be? Naught but a bargain-priced supplier of others' office furniture, it seems."

He takes another sip, looking over either shoulder.

"Would you be dea-- er, would you be a cha-- p'uhhh, would you be a sport and give me a brief debriefing on some of the company here? I fear I know but few of these persons... well, personally."

"I must admit that I do not know all of the guests in attendance, and some I do know, but not very well at this current time. However--" They look around the room ( ... )

They shake their head realising that they forgot one of the more important guests to them at least. "And this is Saunder. My little brown bat." An little cheep from said bat on their shoulder.

He nods respectfully to the bat, musing Ah, so you are the one whom keeps dodging our lures, eh?

He follows her introductions with his eyes. Often he shows no response, although he raises one eyebrow when Narciso is introduced as Cassius' "belle" & raises the other at Ms. Beringer being noted as a "chemist".

"My, you certainly are a detective, to know all of this lot! I find it curious that so many young ones are present... does our hostess have a particular affinity for Urchins?"

Reply

ls_cassius August 17 2011, 21:15:22 UTC
Of course he does! He is a clever and well trained bat.

And they make note of these but make no change in expression of their own. "Perhaps. And not that I am aware of--Though Miss Polly is certainly not an Urchin."

"...to be capable of affording your services, you mean? No, I suppose she is not. Perhaps I cast the term too broadly... I simply tend to think of children visible during my travels as urchins or servants, else they would be with their tutors. My own bias, I suppose."

He contemplates pairing a brie-and-biscuit with a bit olive, or maybe some roe/caviar, or maybe that... thing, whatever it is. That small thing over there. He narrows his eyes at the possibly-edible thing, apprehensively adding it to his beloved B-&-B.

"It would be imprudent of me to ask, but... how does Miss 'Polly' afford such services? Are her relations wealthy?"
