Normally, the little Italian restaurant was closed by this hour, but Mario had paid the owner a visit, brought kind words and presents. That respect and the Falcone name were enough to convince the man to keep his doors open just a little later tonight to play host ( Read more... )

Lisbon actually hadn't changed much from what she'd worn to work, though her dress was always professional and therefore suitable for dinner at a restaurant. She had opted to wear a sleek black blazer over her button-down blouse, which added a touch of elegance and was also practical, since the temperature had dipped quite a bit this evening.

She took his hand, not exactly used to the treatment, but not one to bristle about it. He was just being polite, after all. She recognized the name, but hadn't been here much. Truth be told, it was a nice surprise.

"Hole-in-the-wall places usually have the best food," she remarked as she followed him into the restaurant.

"They really do," he agreed. "Best places to eat in Gotham are the ones that people pass every day without knowing they're there."

He led the way to the restaurant until they came to the door. Like the gentleman his father had raised him to be, he opened it and ushered Lisbon in first. Even on his part, it was only half-conscious. He'd been well trained, and the training had become second nature.

"I spoke with the owner, and he assured me that their dinners were even better than their lunches, and lunch was fantastic."

Now that they were inside, she could see that the entire restaurant was empty. She knew it was late, and she hadn't bothered glancing at the the normal operating hours when they were walking in, but this was certainly unexpected.

"We're the only ones here," she remarked, a little distantly, as she was distracted with taking in the surroundings as well. "The owner agreed to it?"

"Anything to accommodate someone in law enforcement, I believe he said," Mario replied with a grin, leading the way to a table and pulling out the chair for her.

It didn't hurt that, in certain circles, the name 'Falcone' was known even out here. But it would hurt the mood of the evening if the CBI agent knew that. After all, using his family name to get things probably didn't go too well with Mario's story that he had nothing to do with his father's "business."

He settled in and picked up the menu. "Shall we order wine? Or would you prefer not? I know your job is a fairly on-call one."
