Doesn't everyone fantasize about living in palaces and castles?

This is not that. It is even better. I am living in Beckford's Tower in - or rather, above - Bath. Decorated in Regency style, but with all the mod cons - except net access. Funny how William Beckford in 1822 didn't think to have that included in his splendours. (I am writing this ( Read more... )

Depending on circumstances, I am happy to forego running water and electricity for other considerations. I would not be prepared to go through a Canadian winter without heat, no. But I've lived for weeks at a time without running water or electricity - sometimes with a hand pump - and it was fine.

It's good to have somewhere convenient to recharge a laptop, though.

But the thing is, you don't have to do without modern comforts to get the beauty and atmosphere. A good renovation and limitless budget can do wonders.

Jenny! My goodness, the whole trip was wonderful from beginning to end and I want to do it again. Soon. The sooner the better! And I'd love a chance to see you.
