Spider and stuff

I have a new 'pet' at home. I seem to have adopted a garden spider, very pretty he is with brown and cream stripes on his body. He made a web in the corner of my kitchen window several weeks ago and me being me I left him alone. I have no dea what he's (maybe she's) been eating as the cat takes care of the files daft enough to come into the house. ( Read more... )

And that picture is even better knowing that Billy Zane was in the vicinity :)
Are you liking the new Dr Who, or, like me, thinking that the 1970's ones still somehow look more professional...?

LOL I remember the very first episode on tv so I have seen all of the dr's from William Hartnell to the most recent. My favourites up until Christopher Eccleston came along were Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee. But I really like Chris ( ... )

Of course Hugo is cuter, but no one does crazed demon in very tight trousers better than Billy :)

Do you mean that Tate woman? I can't stand her, and have not found any of her 'comedy' programmes remotely amusing. I think either I'm getting old or it's time to emigrate! Mind you, a post watershed Captain Jack series could keep me here for a while longer...

The Dr's new companion will be someone called Freema Agyeman, she was in the Torchwood building, the girl whose brain is pulled out when they pulled out the ear piece.

I love that you love your spiders. They do a much better job of ridding the house of tiny bugs than I could ever do. And what a riot, my dog nabbed a little wolf spider as it crawled across the kitchen floor. I think the bugger played dead as the "corpse" was gone a few minutes after Burt got bored.

And did somebody say Hugo spam? Get ready for it! Hugo with mariachas!

I hadn't seen the picture of Hugo with the mariachas, thanks for that. No luck with that other one then?

The spiders I leave alone, most are huge and seem to be getting bigger. They have gorgeous markings on them. I'll have to try and snak a picture. Fred, the spider in my kitchen window is getting bigger.

Mitzi ignores the spiders for the most part, Tipsy used to bite them in half, when he was alive we had none in the house at all. Mitzi preferes moths.

I'll save the Hugo spam for my LJ... ;)...I encourage spiders around here because we've had a bumper crop of mosquitoes this year. Of course I prefer that the spiders remain outside. ;)I have heard that some bugs can survive in hair follicles and even greasy thumbprints for weaks, but I'm not sure a spider could. But they can rebuild their webs in a couple of hours so you shouldn't feel bad about pulling them down. I think the spiders are used to that happening.

Have you tried patio pots for veggies? They're a lot less work than fullscale gardens and I've had great luck with tomatoes and peppers this year from them. Of course they don't work so well for squash and root vegetables. ;)

I have tried the pots you mentioned but I am very good at forgetting to water the pots so it would be better for them in the ground. My rhubarb seems to thrive on the neglect it gets from me getting bigger each year. I did plant a grape vine this summer but we shall see how it gets on, so far there are lots of leaves on it but autum is coming...

We might have a better climate for patio pots than you do...and we had an unusually wet spring this year so we had a much better crop than usual. I have periods where I forget to water them too ;)...right now my tomatoes are pretty bedraggled but they're still producing great tomatoes. Most of them get made into salsa. We had good luck with our rhubarb too this year, but Mum harvested most of it to make pies for Barb's wedding guests, so I didn't get to sample any. Maybe next year. ;)Good luck with the grapes. Maybe if they thrive you can create your own wine vintage. :)
