Kinomoto Touya did not like to ask for help.

He liked to do things on his own. He was very good at doing things on his own.

But this time, he was desperate.

“Hello?”

“K-Kaho?” His voice came out a pitch higher than he’d intended. Evidence of how nervous he was.

“Touya? Is that you?”

“Um. Yeah. Um.” Idiot.

“How nice to hear from you! How have you been? How’s Sakura-chan? And your father? Eriol and I are doing just fine, as usual. You know, he’s about to start high school. He says it’s very interesting, to watch all of his classmates… I guess things have changed a lot since the last time he-Oh, I forgot! How’s Tsukishiro-san? You’ve at least kissed him by now, right?”

Touya blushed scarlet and nearly dropped the phone. “I-Um-He-Well, you see-“

“Has his appetite gone down any? That must be so difficult for you, taking him on dates. Though I’m sure he tones it down a little for you, right?”

“I-Er-Well…” He was hoping to find out the answer to that one.

“Don’t tell me you haven’t taken him on a date yet!” She sounded absolutely and honestly shocked.

“Um…”

“Kinomoto Touya! I’m disappointed in you!” she scolded.

“That’s why I called-“ he managed to cut in.

“Huh?”

“I… um…well… You know… How… How do you ask someone… out?”

“On a date?”

“Yes?”

“Ooooh this is so exciting! Well, let’s see, first you have to decide when you want the date to be.”

“Next Friday night.”

“And where?”

“At this restaurant in Tokyo, I have the address somewhere…”

“That’s not important, as long as you know where it is. Did I already ask you when?”

“Yes, next Friday.”

“Okay. And what time? Does this place require reservations?”

“I already made them, eight.”

“Okay! Then all you have to do is ask him!”

“Ka-ho!” someone on the other end of the phone yelled. Touya winced. He would recognize that voice anywhere. “Ask him what?” Akizuki continued. “Who’s calling?”

“It’s Tou-“

“Touya! Is he asking the snow bunny to marry him?”

“What?!”

“Oh, Nakuru, don’t be silly! He hasn’t even taken Tsukishiro-san out on a date yet!”

Touya wanted most to bury himself under a pile of dirt or melt into the kitchen table, but neither was happening. And Akizuki was still screaming on the other end.

“Never mind that, Touya. So, have you thought about how you’ll ask him?” Akizuki seemed to have either stopped, passed out, or settled down to listen to the conversation. Probably the last one. He’d never hear the end of it now, and the chances that Yukito would find out about this conversation were very good.

“No, not really…”

“It’s really very easy, Touya. I don’t think Tsukishiro-san will mind something very simple, just you asking if he’s free Friday night, and if he’d like to go out to dinner with you.”

“Wait, so I ask him-“

“Here, listen, Touya. Nakuru and I will demonstrate.” Kaho coughed. “Are you free Friday night?”

Before Akizuki could answer he interrupted. “Of course he’s free Friday night, we always have dinner together. He comes over to my house.”

“Oh. Well then. I was thinking that next Friday we could do something different.”

“Like what, To-ya?” Akizuki responded dutifully, reveling in her role.

“Maybe instead of having dinner at my house, we could…”

-----

“…go out to a restaurant. Or something.”

Yukito blinked, then smiled. “Okay. Should I still come over with you after school, or am I supposed to be dressed up?”

“I… uh…”

“Or I can take extra clothes to your house, and change there.”

“Yeah…”

“Okay! I’ll see you tomorrow, To-ya.”

Even if the asking had gone well, there was still the actual date itself to get through. The night before the date he stood in front of his closet, studying all of his clothes, mentally sorting them, pulling some out, organizing them on his bed, mixing and matching, frowning at them.

Desperate again.

“Kaho?”

“Yes, Touya? Did he say no?!”

“No, no, Kaho, I’m just not sure what I should wear.”

“How fancy is this restaurant?”

“Not… not too fancy, but I can’t wear my school uniform there.”

“And you wouldn’t want to!” Kaho chided.

“But you look good in it anyway!” Akizuki yelled.

“Just wear something that you like,” Kaho soothed. “As long as you’re comfortable in it, and it’s not perfectly hideous, Tsukishiro-san won’t care. He probably wouldn’t care anyway, would he?”

“No… but…”

“And besides, Touya, Nakuru is saying you look good in anything, so I wouldn’t worry too much. Does Tsukishiro-san have a favorite shirt, or color?”

“Um… I…”

“I like the blue pinstripes,” Yukito’s voice offered helpfully from the doorway.

Touya spun, nearly dropping the phone, staring at his best friend.

“I came by to drop off your math book, thank you for loaning it to me. Your father said to come up and see you and offer some help.” He peered at the phone curiously. “Who are you on the phone with? Am I interrupting something?”

Cheering emitted from the phone, and Yukito’s eyes widened. He hated to do it but… Quickly he shut the phone off just as Akizuki started whistling. “No, nothing, it’s fine. You like the blue pinstripes?”

-----

Kaho laughed. “Nakuru…”

The Moon Guardian grinned. “Didn’t you feel like you were interrupting something? Touya’s such a cutie, I swear.”

“He and Tsukishiro-san are so good for each other, don’t you think?”

Nakuru hmphed dramatically. “I do not concede defeat to my better half. But,” she continued, a wicked gleam in her eyes, “I can predict what will happen on their date.”

“What will Tsukishiro-san wear?” Kaho asked, settling down on the couch, making herself comfortable with a glass of wine.

“A light purple shirt.”

“You sound very well informed.”

“We’re good friends. Don’t tell Yue that, though.” Kaho laughed. “The snow bunny will go over after school, and change in Touya’s room, like he always does. Touya will try not to look, but he will.”

“And he’ll blush.”

“Of course. And make some silly comment about how nice he looks, or something.”

“And he’ll stumble over it.”

“Duh. The snow bunny is the only one that can make Touya stupid. He’ll drive him on his bike, he doesn’t have a car.”

“And Tsukishiro-san will have his arms around Touya’s waist.”

“Just like when they ride to school,” Nakuru agreed, joining Kaho on the couch with a cup of coffee. “Only this time his palms will be sweating.”

“At the restaurant, they’ll crack jokes about how much Tsukishiro-san eats.”

“But Touya will say that he can order whatever he wants.”

“And Tsukishiro-san will say it’s all right, but…”

-----

“…you can buy me a cake on the way home.” Yukito beamed innocently at him.

Touya laughed, reaching over to ruffle his friend’s hair. “Deal. As long as I get to pick what kind.”

Yukito smiled, and Touya swore he could feel himself melting. This whole affair was going well enough, but he was still nervous. Yukito seemed to be keeping his bearings better, though, which made him feel a little less nervous. His palms had been sweating on the ride over, with Yukito warm and pressed against his back.

“Yue likes chocolate,” Yukito advised off-handedly, and Touya knew that his decision had been made for him. But he didn’t mind at all. Especially when Yukito added, “I like chocolate, too.”

“You like everything,” he teased automatically.

After dinner, as Yukito shrugged on his coat and thanked the nice waitresses (who, in Touya’s opinion, had spent way too much time staring at them and giggling), Touya came up behind him and put a hand in the small of Yukito’s back, the other casually resting in his coat pocket.

He sincerely hoped that Yukito couldn’t feel his sweat through his coat and shirt.

Yukito looked up at him, then smiled and moved closer, so that they were walking hip-to-hip as they left the restaurant, Touya’s hand sliding further along Yukito’s back until his arm was around Yukito’s waist.

-----

“Ne, Kaho, do you think Touya will feed the snow bunny cake?”

“He’d better not forget to kiss him at the end.”
