not to split hairs...but Patrick didn't "bring Roman Christianity to Ireland". He wasn't the first Christian in Ireland *by far*...his best known predecessor was Bishop Palladius. I would say, however, that Patrick was successful in popularizing Christianity in Ireland.

Thank you for this post, Rowan. I never actually knew before now what St. Patrick's day was supposed to be about. I've never really celebrated it myself, but that's mostly because I've always associated it with drunken wild parties, which aren't my thing at all. Now I've got another reason not to celebrate it.
