Hero follows her lord back to his rooms, weeping quietly from fear and from horror and from shame; when they arrive she stands awkward and unsure. She's dishonoured him and she shouldn't even be with him now, she shouldn't dare to be in his presence, and she keeps her eyes to the ground.

Once at his rooms, Don John stops, turns, and stands still. He watches her, eyes darker than ever, mouth set in one hard line. "Speak," he tells her, though even he is not certain what she should say.
