[The camera angle shows a clear view of the inside of a front loading dryer. Through the clear, if slightly linty, plastic on the front you can see a steak sitting inside. It looks rather raw. Almost oozing, really ( Read more... )

She was blunt, yes, but you patronising her is just being rude right back. You can do better than that.

Has this resulted in a loss of points?

No, but there's something else I want to discuss with you.

What is this thing you wish to discuss?

We talked about calling Rex a 'thing', didn't we, Victor?

Do you recall your last conversation with him?

I do not think I explicitly called him by that word. [Pause.] Perhaps it may have occurred in the course of a wider conversation?

You called him a 'living thing' to my recollection. He gave you a chance to realise what you'd said and apologise and you didn't.

It is not my duty to decode the hidden meanings of Rex. I will speak to him no further.

...Victor.

What you were trying to do was good, I'm not denying that. In fact, it was very, very genuine concern and I appreciate that. But you then went and ruined any positive impression you might have left by equating him to... a plant? An animal? Something like that.

I did not equate him with a bad plant or animal. He could be quite enjoyable company for the right person. Like certain breeds of dogs are to certain men.

He's not a pet, Victor. That's my point. You were doing really well until you started talking to him like he was.

Would you prefer that I address him as a pet or as a monster?

Re: private needshumility June 29 2011, 10:36:50 UTC
Neither. A person might be something I'd approve of. A pet or a monster is still treating him as subhuman, which is the problem here.

I have been looking for human traits during his time in the infirmary. He displays some.
