The problem I had was two-fold. 1)The book it's based on was terrible. The detective work and police force was completely anachronistic to the Regency, the characters barely resembled those of Pride and Prejudice, and the mystery itself was weirdly, unnecessarily convoluted. 2)The pace of the adaptation seemed too slow. Every scene seemed to take forever.
The casting was very good, except I dislike Jenna Coleman's acting style so much that I ground my teeth every time she was on screen. And the set design and costumes were beautiful and very well done.

I haven't read the book so I can't judge, but having seen the adaptation, I think I'll give it a pass...Why is it always bad fanfic that gets published? I read 'Scarlett' before, which poses as a sequal to gone with the wind. yeah, never again Don't watch Dr Who, so Death comes to Pemberley is actually the first time I saw Jenna. I'm planning to watch 'dancing on the edge' though, she's acing opposite Matthew Goode again in that one

I thought as a mystery it was pretty uninteresting and predictable, and as Austen fanfic it was painfully lacking in Austen's wit or insight. The scenes with Mrs Bennet and Lydia made me cringe for how hard they tried to capture the humour of the original and how hard they failed.
I wasn't too keen on some of the casting either. Anna Maxwell is a good actress but she's a little dour for Elizabeth. She played her much like Esther Summersen - a nice intelligent quiet woman, but she conveyed none of Elizabeth's sense of humour. The guy who played Darcy I thought just seemed unlikeable and a bit of a tool.
Wickham's storyline was interesting, I liked Lydia and they did a really good of recreating the feel and setting, so you could just enjoy it on the level of 'wouldn't it be cool to be a regency heroine with an estate' fantasy.

seems like it's general consensus that the murder mystery part is meh. Oh man, I was trying to place Anna Maxwell and where I've seen her before. She was in North and South! and becoming Jane. I guess she plays down-to-earth characters very well, and lacks some bite. Darcy, well, anyone would struggle to overcome the greatness that is Colin Firth ;P (I haven't seen the Keira Knightley/Matthew Macfadyen version) After watching, I now want a sequel: Lydia and George conquer America with their faux old money and loose morals

I am a great admirer of Anna Maxwell Martin in general, but I just didn't feel there was much for her Elizabeth to work with, and as such it was a perfectly decent performance, but not an interesting or exciting one. Half the characterisation in the script was based on the fact that we know who Elizabeth Bennett is, and the other half pretty blah.
Also, I think that AMM really is not an especially pretty woman. She's pleasant looking, but not more than that, and her face and skin don't have that sparkle that I associate with Elizabeth. I see AMM more as playing strong characters brough to life by their dynamism (she was a fantasic Isabella in Measure for Measure), which Austen's Elizabeth has, but PD James' hasn't.

Yeah, she didn't look much like a Lizzie to me, especially with the very plain way they dressed her. I mean, Lizzie is no Lydia, but she's also no Mary or Jane Eyre. I can't see her being so spartan about her clothes when she has all that money.
I like AMM a lot, and maybe she could have brought the part to life better with better lines but in general I'm not sure she's the best possible fit for that particular role.
It would have been kind of cool if they'd had Jennifer Ehle, actually. It would be interesting to see her play an older version of Lizzie.

It certainly looked great. What a house! and I sway between Lydia and Georgiana dresses Alveston is the very definition of a gentleman when he was seemingly rejected. I'm glad he and Georgianna have their happy ending

In a bout of nostalgia I started rewatching season 1. And it's still as good, but so many tears shed my head hurt.
And I realized I'm still shipping Lilah and Tim as strong as ever. I got a little thrill of anticipation right before some of their lines, like her "He is never gonna walk again!", his "Lilah. I can't. I can't stop thinking about you".
Also, the few scenes between Tyra and Street, Riggins and Saracen, really made me wish the show had focused on developing the friendships and relationships between those characters that evolved in the same crowd but were never that close.
Does anyone know why "Just as I can be so cruel" (author Chemical Love, I think) got pulled? I know it had noncon, abuse, and other triggers. Was it ff.net's policies that led to it being taken down?

Have you gotten past D Block yet, nonnie? If not, good luck with it.
(I am not the nonnie from the last post, I just have very clear memories of how many of my Xenogears replays died when I hit the pointless slog that is D Block. I'd take Babel Tower over it any day.)

D-Block I don't remember being that terrible, but I have a high tolerance for boring bullshit in games. The frustrating jump puzzles of Babel Tower was much, much worse (and I've already fallen through a hole once because I was too busy spewing Shipping Feelings to my roommate to watch where I was going, so I'm not sure I'm any more up for half-assed platforming than I as in 1998).

I knew as soon as we were introduced to the character in question that they were the murderer, though. There was no other way for a happy ending.

I've spent the past night hip-deep in old Angelfire pages looking for fanfiction and I don't know what to do with my feelings :(
