Sexual repression in fandom anonymous August 15 2010, 19:57:23 UTC
No, I don't mean sexual deprivation from being unable to get any. I'm talking about repressed, uptight fans. Like the ones described here:

http://community.livejournal.com/fail_fandomanon/1466.html?thread=6372538#t6372538

Or the ones who seem to be proud to be virgins well into their 20s and 30s, even have icons that announce it. I mean, whatever, it's your body and your choice, but what's there to be "proud" of? You didn't have sex. Well, whoop de do ( ... )

Well, if you get to be proud of having had sex, I guess you get to be proud of being a virgin as well. Maybe it's related to the fact that there's a lot of societal pressure on people if they're virgins, and feeling proud is a backlash.

It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with repression either. Some people just have other things on their minds.

LOL ANONFAIL. D'OH. Reposting my comment as best I can, because I didn't copy/paste:

OP here. Women get pressure no matter what we choose to do. I perceive there being more pressure to be "modest" and "chaste," but of course plenty of women are pressured to engage in sexual activities that, for whatever reason, they're not comfortable with.

That still doesn't explain the prissiness over swearing.

HP-Anon mod joins the fail brigade anonymous August 15 2010, 20:57:49 UTC
This comment got deleted by the mod at HP-Anon:

"Ataniell was a crazed wanker, and Gun was an obnoxious twat who lived to stir up trouble. They cancelled each other out in that wank."

The mod's response: "WE DON'T USE THAT WORD HERE."

No idea if "THAT WORD" is "crazed" or "twat," or even "obnoxious" or "wanker," and the mod's not responding to a request for clarification. In any case, it's a pretty fucking stupid thing to do on an anon meme, IMO (and no, I'm not the OP of the original comment). I think the mod's going to have to ban anonymous commenting to keep people from using those words. < / sarcasm font >
