To save other podficcers from the same fate, we'd like to create a list of authors podficcers might want to be careful about. This can be because the author will say no, but it can also be warnings for other things. Like, that an author was hard to deal with, or they that they'll host a copy of your podfic without tell you, etc.

Yeah, see, I wouldn't mind that? But I know people who would mind me being on a list like that, because they're very loudly Pro-Podfic, and I would rather not deal with them.
Though I guess they would be more pissed off if they found out I had no statement but was saying no on an individual basis. IDK. I feel like there's no winning here if you're just not into being podficced.

Maybe it's just me, but isn't mutual pretending-we-don't-know-you're-there okay, really?

Apparently not, because people suffer trauma when they think about having to contact you.
IDK. This whole thing seems like a way to shift the burden of communication away from the podficcers. And as long as they're the ones who want the podfic (because, no matter what thefourthvine says, I don't think the majority of fic authors are sitting around waiting to be podficced; most of them probably don't think about it), they should be the ones to bear that burden.

Yeah, what's with all of these people? If it were phrased as a "hey, people who like podfic and would love to have more podfic of their works! A BP is a great way to encourage podfic," I would be less weirded out.
I mean, outside of fandom, if you want to adapt someone else's work, say make a movie or a play out of it, usually you just (wo)man up and contact them.

I don't have a BP up partly because I've a few people on my flist/circle who've got a tendency towrds toxic levels of evangelism about podfics, and my position of "for most fics I don't care but ask because there's a few I don't want podficced" would just be an invitation for them to start preaching at me about how I shoiuld always say yes.
Shifting the obligation for communication to the authors and accompanyimg it with this guilt trip about how they have to do it because it'll help people just doesn't sit right. And I love the assumption that alleviating the possible social anxiety of all podficcers is more important than any anxiety about the issue that writer's might have.

I had a blanket statment up for the longest time, but this is what I see happening in my circle and it really makes me uneasy about podfic in general now. I put it up, because I wanted other people to have fun in fandom, not to make a moral statement or "help people".

But other then that: just ask or leave it be. Nobody is forcing you to contact the authors, but the podficcer is the one who wants something here.

The podfic issue is eating itself at this point.

Plus...that's factually incorrect.
