(in betraying what they love betray what's truest in themselves)

BELIZE: I've thought about it for a very long time, and I still don't understand what love is. Justice is simple. Democracy is simple. Those things are unambivalent. But love is very hard. And it goes bad for you if you violate the hard law of love ( Read more... )

*hand up* Well, OBVIOUSLY I like getting blood taken, although for some reason they tell me off for watching. Also with injections, apparently watching is verboten. *face*

(that's a really nice quote, btw)

They tell you off? Really? Nobody who's ever taken blood from me has cared one whit about whether I look or not.

(I...have read this play far too many times, quotes from it pop up in my mind in response to almost anything.)

They tell me to look away and when I don't I get a lecture about "trying to be brave is just silly, come on now". And I don't really feel like explaining that it has nothing to do with being brave and everything to do with being a pervert and insatiably curious.

(I managed to miss a performance of it in Hammersmith earlier this year and am somewhat bummed out by it. I've never read it!)

Maybe tell them you're a med student: nobody cares how avidly you watch ANYTHING :)

(I think you'd enjoy it! Maybe not all of it, but definitely parts. I read it and watch the HBO miniseries -- which is FANTASTIC and has all sorts of awesome people in it -- at least once a year each.)

My friend J. likes all that stuff because she likes connecting it with what she learned in anatomy/physiology/bio. etc., which is another reason it is silly (though still awesome!) that she is going to art school and not med- .

I don't mind shots or getting blood taken ... I don't really enjoy giving blood though. It icks me out how warm the tube is! And I also can't do anything but get driven home to bed afterwards.

I like knowing what all the abbreviations on the test-order sheet are! And I am totally going to analyse my own blood results.

I like watching the tubes fill up and thinking that's mine.

THIS. I don't know, I just think it's fascinating and cool, and everyone always thinks I am a weirdo for it.
