Marybeth hadn’t been the only one, but they didn’t know until it was too late. The counter-attack, when it came, was silent and swift, overwhelming them in the dark before they knew what had happened. First one, then another, until it was all quiet, peaceful. No fear, no worry, nothing. Zeke was alone when they took him, tinkering in the rebuilt lab in his garage. The last ally, and now there was only Casey. And he had nowhere left to go.
So when Zeke came for him, smiling, asking, Casey could only close his eyes, accept, and give himself over.
