She should have realized sooner that after he finishes the last line of his song that he’s no longer her Kai. Yet it’s his touch that tells her the truth. It’s casual and brief without any of the warm familiarity of before. His touch is the careless touch of a stranger and then Kai’s gone and she lets him go because what else can she do. The man she knows isn’t the one standing in front of her. Not yet at least.
As she leaves Goblins, Erica realizes that she’s happy that he’s back on track but at the same time, she’s heartbroken. Erica doesn’t feel guilty for the way she’s feeling because she had always known that things between them would end this way. He couldn’t stay here forever. Yet Kai’s casual brush off still hurts because she never got to say goodbye to her Kai.
By the time she reaches her apartment, she has a headache from mulling it all over. All she knows is that whatever they had shared is over and there’s no sense in crying over it.
