Summary: Every story has a start, middle and a finish to it. This is Thelma’s story.

Beginnings

At first it had just been the two of them against the world, or in this case the snobby students at Medenham Hall who had looked down at them. Thelma knew why they looked down at her, but she could never quite figure out why Roxanne had taken such a dislike to Cassie. And Thelma knew that Roxanne was the queen of Medenham Hall, if she didn’t like you then the rest of the in crowd would shamelessly follow her lead. But it had never really bugged Thelma; she was content in the knowledge that her Cassie loved her. It hadn’t mattered that Cassie’s feelings was only the deep love of a friend, Thelma was happy with whatever Cassie choose to give her. Of course, she was the eternal optimist who dreamt that her best friend would miraculously wake up one morning and declare that she was hopelessly in love with Thelma before soundly kissing her. But even if Cassie never did, Thelma was okay with it because Cassie was special.

Middles

Maya had been a gift and a curse at the same time. A devilish prize from Malachi for doing his dirty work, but Thelma couldn’t find it in herself to care. She had fallen in love with Maya before it had all gone wrong. Perhaps it was the fact that she had been so unbearably lonely, or that she had missed being able to touch someone and have them touch her in return, or just the simple fact that beyond her one-sided love affair with Cassie there had been no one else. She should have known better but she had given in to Malachi just so she could hang on to Maya for a little longer. Thelma knew that it had all gone wrong, and that she should just confess her sins to Ella but she couldn’t. She needed Maya’s love and for a brief moment she held it before it all went wrong.

Ends

In the end, they had saved the world from Malachi and the other fallen angels. And her reward wasn’t oblivion; instead she was made whole again. Flesh and blood once more and no longer destined to haunt the world. It had taken her a while to realize what had happened; she was too lost to the elated feeling that despite all the odds that had been carefully stacked against them from the very start that they had won. It wasn’t until she had hugged Leon that she had realized and she had started crying and laughing at the delight of not being a ghost anymore. It made all of the sacrifices she had been forced to make worthwhile. When she yawned, tired for the first time in four years, Leon had laughed at her and Ella had smiled, the enormity of it all had struck her. No more trips to the morgue for new clothes, no more invading someone’s dreams, no more potions so that someone could interact with her in the waking world, and so many more no mores that she couldn’t even contemplate them all.
