in the spirit of the season

David's not a fan of Christmas music. it's not that he actively dislikes it, but there's only so much he can take. in an effort to be understanding and supportive, at least somewhat, I haven't been listening to very much around him. that's not to say I have been depriving myself, but I can listen to Christmas music at work or in the car. no need to ( Read more... )

Se we still need to hook up the tree to an extension cord to see the lights tonight. ;-) Have you determined what all you're going to do with the candle idea yet?

well, the UUA espouses seven principles. what do you think about lighting a candle a day for seven days, and looking at the principle and discussing what it might mean for us as UUs or in the coming year or something?

I share David's hatred for the sort of Christmas music that tends to get played on the radio and etc. (I detest Burl Ives. I hate "Christmas Shoes". "Jingle Bell Rock" is a travesty; a crime against humanity in musical form. etc etc.) I do like "non-standard" Christmas music, though - this is the pandora station which I cobbled together last year (http://www.pandora.com/#/stations/share/60414105209979741) it's far from perfect, but it has a nice mix of Jethro Tull and other gloomy Christmas bits, also Sufjan Stevens.

see, I don't take it quite so seriously. =) I have a wide range of tastes. thanks for the link to the station! I'll have to check it out this weekend when we're making cookies.

It needs close monitoring, lest it slip into Burl Ives and Elvis, but it tends to produce a pretty decent background noise of instrumental versions mixed with some odd gems. Like Christmas from Chiron Prime.

LOL! The sneak. Mine just grins and bears it, and I in return refrain from playing the stuff too often and allow him to profane the house with his ultra-cheesy Halloween decorations around that time. It balances out well. XD

Halloween decorations at Christmas? or are you talking about cheesy Halloween decorations in October?
