in the spirit of the season

David's not a fan of Christmas music. it's not that he actively dislikes it, but there's only so much he can take. in an effort to be understanding and supportive, at least somewhat, I haven't been listening to very much around him. that's not to say I have been depriving myself, but I can listen to Christmas music at work or in the car. no need to also listen at home all the time.

even so, there are times when it's just appropriate to have Christmas music playing. David is aware that the weekend of the Big Bake will involve Christmas music. it always does. he's nerving himself up for it.

but another time it's nice to have on is during decorating. we actually got some decorations out yesterday afternoon and put up the tree. we never quite got around to it last year, and we thought it would be good to make an effor this year. I want to have a celebration of lights in some fashion this year, which I have to think on. but first I have to tackle the nearly impossible task of finding scent-free votives and tea lights. I digress.

as we were decorating, I suddenly became aware of how very quiet the house was. oh yes!! music! I got up, and proceeded to get ready for music. going into the closet in the TV room, I found a CD to play. my choice at the time was an album by Brenda Lee that includes Jingle Bell Rock. figured that would be light and fun and upbeat.

then I had to go find something else. I can't remember what. when I got back, the CD was gone! I looked at David, who was busily putting decorations up, and he grinned. and I said, I have more! so I went to go get another CD. and when I returned, the CD player was gone! David was trying not to laugh, and I was also laughing. but I would not be beat!

digging into my coat pocket, I came up with my MP3 player, which I plugged into some computer speakers, and voila! David was treated to Christmas music after all. he noted that the battery would run down eventually.... I pointed out that we have another CD player I could use, too....

and decorating was had by all.

christmas, david
