I went to the evening viewing for Baroness Ro and also the funeral. About 20 of us SCAdian types went to the Calvert House Inn for lunch after the funeral. Lady Ingeborg suggested that restaurant because Ro had once said something to the effect that it was her family's favorite restaurant and they always went there for special occasions.
Sorry, I've already put in a reservation for the Storvik Performers' Revel, which is the same day. The last time we had one of these Performers' Revels, I think I was out of town, maybe at Lunacon.
I've been practicing more stuff than I had a chance to perform at Yule Revel, so I might as well get a chance to show it off in a relatively non-threatening environment. But I think that Wyn (of Bright Hills) is bummed that the Performers' Revel might be drawing people away from his Bardic Challenge at BH Birthday.
The impression I got was that most of the merchants didn't do "as well as usual"- I'm thinking "downturn" in the economy. I heard gate was 1600+ (not counting the workers and merchants. We worry about the weather, but lets face it, the economy is important too. I'll be very happy to pay for Lady Rowan, I don't remember her but she sounds wonderful. I totally understand the way you feel about Cancer. I could deal with it when my "old" (64) grandmother died- she'd smoked and it was lung cancer. But now it's my mother, my husband, my brother, several friends... It's too much. What are we not learning from this that it keeps getting worse?
Someone just posted in sca_east a negative review of this year's Birka, saying it was taken over by the rennies and pirates and goths. You may wish to read it. Or not.

Someone else I did not see at Birka.
And alethea_eastrid had brought her imps, too.
