Somebody else mentioned it in their LJ, and also said the local papers were not saying the cause of death, only that "they were not shot to death." It's a really sad situation; their son was only 7 years old.
Wayne said he used to work out with him at the gym around the corner, years ago. Never made a fuss as to who he was.

It's now being reported as a possible murder-suicide. :(

That always amused me, too, when he first hit the wrestling scene. That is a tragic story, though.

It is sad and truth goes to the grave with all things unspoken.

If I'm piecing this together properly, he killed spouse and child -- barehanded?!? -- then himself a day or two later. Oh yeah, and meantime bowed out of the Sunday night gig because spouse and kid were already dead. Mmmmmmmm lemme guess ... 'roid rage?! bleah.

Actually, Chris Benoit was not known to use steroids... He had been a pro wrestler for many years, and did not have the string of injuries associated with steroid use; by all accounts, he was a quiet nice guy. His build had been consistent throughout his wrestling career (no sudden increase in mass, etc. associated with steroid use, no sudden decrease...). Unless he suddenly decided he needed to start using for no apparent reason... I don't buy it. Not for Benoit.

That's what I thought at first, too - "How can WWE do a 3-hour tribute to a man who just murdered his wife and child?" But the report I just read on my friend dashrippington's journal is much different, and very, very sad. Heartbreaking, in fact, so I won't repeat it, but I'll just direct you over there.

I'm not a wrestling fan anymore (the sports soap opera just got too silly for me), but my heart just goes out to their families about this. I wanna go home and hug my seven-year-old . . .

There really is only one thing that can be said for the Benoits:

Eternal Rest, grant unto them, Oh Lord
And let perpetual light shine upon them.

May their souls, and the souls of all the departed,
thru the mercy of Thy Grace, rest in peace.

What a sad, sad thing.
