Regarding the comic con, I would suggest this - if they are available, check out photos of the previous cons, and see if you can identify stalls. How big is it, how many people? How specific to it are your items on sale? Can you make specific items/rename them appropriately, or add some blurb to them to draw the customers in? $600's a lot to put up front, unless you can be sure of covering cost.
equivelent space at ICON , which used to be good.. with a lot of the same KIND of guests, is about the same price. and needs hotel space....and lots of tolls and gas.
i used to make 2 thou or so at icon, the last couple years its sucked but they also keep moving it...
That doesn't sound too bad at all then. I probably sound more wary, because I know people are finding times really tough here in the UK and spending is just not happening as much.

The one in Calgary that I went to last month would have been fine for you to be able to sell stuff at; there was a place that sells swords and armour, a number of places that sell clothing of all types, and lots of places for things like jewelry and accessories. People would have bought your stuff no problem.
If the con is an annual thing, it might be worthwhile to hold off for this year and plan to get a booth next year. Go as a fan this year to see what it's like and assess whether it will be a viable market.
i cannot usually go as a fan... but usually thats good advice. i cant walk far enough.
i know _some_ of the other vendors.. they used to do ICON back when that made money.
most of my items are NOT specific to this event, although i can make stuff that is more so.. because it runs into copyright issues. i DO put names on stuff to draw comparisons...
My friend, "Twisted Kitten Creations" on Etsy, she always SHARES a booth with someone- she did GREAT at ComicCon in Seattle- but literally will share LESS next year because she sold out of everything she had space to show off- even the silly "mood bracelets" she brought for kicks! Her Soaps are Geek-Tastic, and her friends mostly sell jewlery, I think. I suggest sharing a booth if at all possible!
