So sorry you are having to go through this. If you had owned the car outright (no more payments), would you have been able to keep it? (Just wondering in case I have to go through this....)
Having been through it...you *can* choose to keep your assets. So if you can afford your car & house, but not your credit card and medical bills, then you can keep paying those. If you can afford the car but need to move from your house, you can do that, too.
About the only debt you cannot shed via bankruptcy is a student loan. Those things hang about forever. (keep in mind, please, my bankruptcy was about 8 years ago...but it did not prevent my ex and I being able to qualify for a mortgage 3 years after the bankruptcy.)
