In the early episodes, DiNozzo knew nothing about TV or movies. There's at least one episode where someone makes the kind of reference that he's notorious for in the later episodes and he's clueless. Suddenly in the later episodes he's all about the movie references.

i mean like how in season4-7 he apparently alternates weekly between being a reliable friend who just sometimes acts like a jerk to the team, and being someone i really cant imagine anyone working with.

i had previously put it down to seeing the episodes out of order.. but watching the 7th season its the same thing..loyal and true friend (who is a bit of an ass, ok) in one episode. two episodes later he is an abusive co worker. its like the writers are not sure themselves where the line between "ok, thats two friends goofing off" and "dude, the guy followed you into a terrorist camp, why are you treating him like shit?"
