As many of you know, when I am in garb at SCA events I wear Sideless Surcoats. I love those things. You can throw them on over almost *anything* and look good. Combined with a good Hat, a Sideless Surcoat makes you really look fancy, while still allowing you to do things like move, lift, breath, etc

I managed to be sick as a dog the one time she was in the area, and i was supposed to go...I figured i better not give everyone the plague and stayed home >darn it<.
Last time I did a web search for her stuff my computer was acting up. so thanks! I will try again.

One thing I've long wondered: why did SCA women start wearing their belts outside of the front panel of these things? I haven't yet found a medieval image that shows the belt over the front panel.
re: Robin Netherton: The historic costume list archives should turn up a number of posts by her, which were much in tune with her lecture on sideless surcoats, so you can almost get all the content by reading them. Alas, the link is on my other computer, but if you can't find it, drop me a note and I'll dig 'em up tonight. (Really short summary, which you probably know: originally a normal women's fashion, but became codified into "saints and queens" iconic costume -- and it's pretty much the saints & queens images that folks want to make. Not that I blame them, they're pretty!)
