Same thing happened to me with University of Arizona, except that amount was $1500. Second semester of my freshman year, our quads (4 people per room) dorm had so many folks move out that they offered me a double at no additional cost. Since my old roommates were illegally smoking (and I'm allergic to smoke) I was happy to make the move.

15 years later they decided to charge me the double rate. While talking to them, I reminded them that they had not a single document with my signature on it accepting the double rate.

That's why I rarely go out to eat anymore. I always pay for it and thrilled when it doesn't happen to me which is rare.

i can usually manage..
MOST places, if you wait for them to not be busy.. and start with "food allergy" either tell you flat out "no guarantees" (ok, i can live with that) or they bend over backwards... i have had people go get me the ingredient list and read me off can labels......
(of course not when they are busy!)

these guys had no clues at all
and i shudder to imagine how many school kids and such come through

It's almost impossible to convince someone that our allergies are real.

food service around here usually has it down.....
they may not savvy MY food allergies (ok, i can work around that) but the concept of "allergic, whats the ingredients" gets people here to sit up. they are terrified that someone will sue them

this btch wouldnt even take her dmn ipod earphone out... and the kitchen /cook woman was all like "who is this and why are they bothering me"

NOT normal around here.

now if they had said "oh, well we cant guarentee anything, common utensils, blah blah" i would have just gotten an apple and been out to the hot dog cart....
it was the sheer bad service aspect of it that really got me.

food service plus kids? man they have to have the peanut rules down at least.....

For future reference; The various lunch trucks that line Spruce St generally offer better service and selection. Also, there are the cafeterias at HUP and CHOP, they will understand allergies a bit better I think.
