Dec 13, 2006 13:17

Buying for men is easier than you might think.  Most men like:

1.      Things you set on fire.

2.       Things that make noise.

3.        Things that are sharp, or you could hurt yourself with, like heavy rocks. (Knives, swords, rocks, some statues)

4.      Things that need ( Read more... )

her spice blends are too awesome for words. and hand blended with TOP ingredients. I could use nothing but her spices and be very happy.
many of the spice blends and "rubs" also make good marinades or dressings if blended with oil and viniger.
Plus the names are fun.
You will love them, and you can feel good knowing you are supporting a fellow member of fandom and the SCA instead of a big impersonal business.

She also speaks "sugar free" so if you want you can have her substitute splenda or stevia or something for sugar in any of the sweets recipes.
her sugar free fudge is divine...

You are too right about the sock thing! The only present I've ever gotten the Penguin that he's been really enthusiastic about was handkit "flying" socks (socks to wear on an airplane, with reverse stockinette planes on the feet). They're in gray, but the pattern made it fun.

Sadly, I don't have time to knit socks before the holidays, but I am going to remember it for next year.

yup,
socks. i dunno why. i mean i like socks, but guys seem to be real fans of the art.
well, you could buy him some really yummy store socks, and pack them in with a note saying "pick a color for your next handknit pair of socks"

or give him a gift cert to a yarn store with a note saying "Wanna get great SoX? go buy your sock yarn"

I just used the sock pattern out of the Knitters Handy Book Of Patterns and drew a plane on a grid, which unfortunately, I no longer have.

I love to design stuff, but I'm not much good at writing down what I did =P. Same with cooking.

I'm making mine a cookbook, but have been trying to think of a small "fun" gift to go with. This may be helpful...

well, spices go with a cookbook.. but i admit i think Jane (Auntie Arwen) spices go with everything.

if your guy likes cooking, i suppose he already has all the "kitchen gadgets" you could buy him....

glad to help

Well, he doesn't know how to cook and has admitted needing to fix this - the cookbook will also have a glossary and helpful hints. I'll definitely look at the spices, though (If nothing else, my roommate and I love! spices.)

well, if they ASK for a specific item it does make it a bit easier..

yeah, watch caps tend to be good. i have had good luck with cabled hats (simple cables) in grey or black as well

and my husband liked the ski mask. it was my first try at the helmetliner pattern. If they wear a CPAP (beathing thing overnight) then a ski mask can be good. my hubby always complained that his head was cold but he couldnt wear anything around the face mask...so now he has a ski mask. and a giant oversized hat that can pull down OVER the mask if need be.

grin, the buying guide for men, buying for women, is coming out tomorrow.

ah yes, toy trains...
electrical, check
could be sharp, check,
loud, check
may even set on fire or have smoke from the engine. but close enough

same for erector sets.....

boys and their toys!
i got a train set for Xmas when i was a kid.... i never got to play with it, my dad and brother were always playing with it. (my brother is 13 years older than i am.) now life goes round funny. dad got mom a train set wreathe that goes on the front door... if you wave at it it chugs around in a circle and makes train whistle noises.....
