Chapter 1 ☆ [Accidental Voice/Action]

Sep 04, 2011 18:07

[It's been about two days since Joshua's rather... awkward arrival. Since then, he's been busy familiarizing himself with Luceti and getting settled in, keeping an eye out for his belongings all the while. Locating his clothes, weapons and orbment fortunately didn't take long - as it turned out, all of them were scattered throughout the various ( Read more... )

[Well, someone will alert him to that, but is going to let him continue to play. It has been about five years since Leonhardt last heard that song, and with it being his favorite there's no way he's going to make Joshua stop. It's not like he was really sleeping.

But because he does want to listen to it, he'll go ahead and send a shadow up to go talk with Joshua. Not that the boy is likely to know the difference unless he needs to make a quick exit.

It won't be hard to notice the presence nearby. While Leonhardt is trying to remain out of sight until the song ends, he unconsciously started humming along to it, and since he knows the whole melody, that will continue after Joshua stops playing.]

[Difficult or not, Joshua won't be noticing Leonhardt's presence immediately. He's rather focused on the song, after all, and until he finishes playing it, he isn't really taking note of anything else.

Of course, since he's - unbeknownst to him - only playing the first part of the song, that means it won't take long until he finishes it, and once he does...]

[...It doesn't take long at all until he notices the humming. He knows that voice, but... his focus right now is actually on the melody. Not only does it match up with the song he just played, but it also sounds familiar - even if he's not quite sure why.

While he will be glancing in the direction of the sound, he won't say anything just yet, instead opting to simply listen quietly for now, attempting to memorize the melody in the process.

...It really is strange just how familiar this sounds - and how well it matches up with his own song. Estelle did often note that something seemed to be missing from it... Maybe she was right about that after all.]

[And once he realizes that Joshua stopped playing, he also stops, so unfortunately the song will be abruptly cut off before he actually gets to the end of it.]

There is no need to stop because I'm here. I merely came to let you know that I could hear it over the device.

[It takes Joshua a moment to respond. ...His journal was on, huh? Maybe he should've left it at the apartment. Ah well... Too late for that now, it seems. As long as nobody minds, it should be fine, anyway.]

It's a song I learned a long time ago. It's called "The Whereabouts of Light." [Come to think of it, he doesn't remember when or where he learned it - only that it was sometime before Cassius took him in. But it's one of the few things that have always been with him... maybe that's why playing it feels almost nostalgic to him.]

[That's a good question, actually. He can't answer for sure, but he can hazard a guess, at the very least.]

I believe it's intended to lead someone to the light. [That's his opinion, at least. Whether it really is what the one who wrote it intended or not, though, that he isn't quite sure about.]

[So... waking up in the woods, completely at random, with no memory of how she came to be there? And no cell phone to call for help? Generally not a cool experience. "Terrified" doesn't even begin to describe it. It doesn't take Rui long to notice the wings on her back, either (and the fact that they're attached and alive) so a scream accompanies the rest of her fretting. Just what is this place? Where? What's happened to her?

After several minutes of huddling under a tree and attempting to rationalize everything, she's finally decided that with no explanation in sight, this must be a dream. What else could it be? And with that in mind, she dusts herself off and starts walking, picking a direction and aimlessly working her way through the woods. Perhaps it's luck, but eventually as she's making her way out of the woods, she catches the sound of music on the wind, and with it being the only sign of anyone at this hour, she follows it to what looks like an apartment building. Now the sound is coming from.... above?]H... hello? Is ( ... )

[The sound of that voice definitely manages to draw Joshua's attention away from his playing. Whoever just spoke sounded really uneasy... and it sounded like that voice came from below.

If Rui's looking up to the roof of the building, she might just notice a black-haired boy looking down not long after the sound of music ceases, scanning the area for the source of the voice he just heard. It won't take him long to spot here, but he's not going to speak up just yet - rather, he's waiting to see if she'll say something again, if only to confirm that she was the one he just heard.]

[Rui jumps at the voice, stepping back cautiously before looking up. There's a boy on the roof, and while he doesn't look scary or dangerous, she's stil not sure whether to be relieved or more scared.]

E-excuse me? Do you know where this is...?

[Ah, so it was her who spoke, then. And judging from both that question and her attire, she must have just arrived here - just like he did two days ago.

...Time to see if he's already familiar enough with this place to help her out. Even if the Bracer Guild isn't actually represented here, he still has a duty to fulfill, after all.]

Actually, I do. Just a moment, I'll come down and explain. [His voice is calm and reassuring as he speaks, but as soon as he's done speaking, he'll pick up his journal, then head inside and down the stairs.

He'll be at the building's entrance in a few minutes. It's probably better to explain this when there aren't eight floors of a building between them, right?]

[The sound of the harmonica catches Saber's attention easily. And, as she listens in, she accidentally loses herself to the moment and speaks in the middle of his playing.]

How lovely.

[Joshua stops playing momentarily when he hears Saber's voice. ...His journal's on, isn't it? Maybe he should have left it downstairs... but if nobody minds, then hopefully this isn't too much of a problem.

It won't take long until the song resumes again, though. But with it being relatively short, that means he'll finish playing it soon - if Saber plans to say anything else, that may be a good time to do so.]

[Oh, did he stop because of her? She feels a little bad now, but she doesn't say anything until after he'll be done with it.]

Pardon my interruption- you're a very good player.

[...Ah, she's still listening. Well, in that case, he might as well address her now.]

Don't worry about it. [He doesn't really mind.] And thank you.

[He didn't mean for the journal to broadcast him playing, but it's not as if he minds anyone listening. As long as they have no qualms with him playing at this hour, it's fine, right?]

[Yui isn't so much awake around midnight, but she can hear the melody being played through her journal and just mumbling something]

mmm s'nice...can yu play s'more mister teddy-san?

[As with Saber, Joshua stops playing momentarily when he registers Yui's voice, but it won't take long for him to recognize its source and the fact that this particular person appears to be talking in their sleep. Their journal must have opened up by accident as well...

It won't take long until he resumes playing - and after finishing the rather short song, he'll repeat it one more time, as if to heed Yui's sleep-muttered request.]

[And Yui just smiles in her sleep when she hears the tune again.]

[...A-aww. Part of him admittedly has to wonder who this is, but while he could simply ask... He'd rather not risk waking this person. He's heard their voice - he can try to see if he can find out who it belongs to himself, rather than possibly waking them by speaking up right now.

He's done playing now, but... He'll leave the journal open for just a little longer. Just in case the person on the other side does end up waking up. But if Yui remains asleep... maybe he'll simply leave her be.]
