It's funny how in a place like this, a doctor can feel so useless in the shadow of a healer who uses magic or other such methods. I see so many people asking for medical assistance... yet of course it seems much more convenient for someone who can heal you right away to show up, rather than someone who can only diagnose the problem ( Read more... )

Well, if there's ever something those healers can't do the doctors can always help. If this enemy was ever to try biological warfare against us I don't think the healers could stand it. Granted, with so few doctors and who knows what number of researchers around here any biological warfare would be tough to face, but I'd prefer to think anyone who can't heal instantly can do some good too.

I know they can. It almost seems... inconvenient, though, in comparison. Just an observation. I don't know if that makes me a pessimist or not, but...

I try not to think like that, but you do have a point there. People tend to want the speediest recoveries.

...Hm. Just how thoroughly does healing mend wounds? I'm curious. I'll have to make a note to ask around about that sometime.

I'm not quite sure myself, not being a healer or any sort of magic-user. I'd assume it varies, though, depending on what kind of healing it is, who's doing it, and how powerful the force behind it is.

There are moments I do feel useless, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't do all that we can to help whomever needs it. That's part of what it means to be a doctor.

Of course. I've already helped several people, one of whom probably would have died if those of us who helped him hadn't removed the bullet which was lodged in his shoulder. It is difficult, admittedly, but I don't plan on stopping. I knew what I was in for the moment I said I wanted to be a doctor.

Magical healing might be more convenient for some, but I personally don't feel comfortable with something I don't understand.

I feel that way about the more advanced medicine so many worlds have sometimes, but we can't give up. Like everyone's saying, they need us just as much as they need the magical healers - magic might close a wound, but how much can it really help against sickness?

I for one trust human hands far more than any magic. Magic is a thing of tales, and in tales, magic comes with a price. And I don't mean a monetary price, either.

I do not claim to understand the medicines of a world not my own any more than I understand magic, but I would trust myself to something with which I am somewhat familiar, than to something with which I have no experience at all.
